Busan Agricultural Technology Center to Hold the 38th Busan Farmers’ Festival

The Busan Agricultural Technology Center (hereinafter “the Center”) announced that it will host the 38th Busan Farmers’ Festival at 10 a.m. on October 30 at the lawn plaza of Daejeo Ecological Park, bringing together 1,200 farmers from across Busan.

This year’s festival, held under the theme “Healthy Farming Spirit! Safe Busan Agriculture!”, aims to share the future vision of Busan’s agriculture while promoting unity and pride among local farmers.

The event is organized by the Center and co-hosted by the Busan chapters of the Korean Advanced Farmers’ Federation, the Korean Rural Leaders Association, and the Korean Women in Agriculture Association.

The program will include the presentation of the Busan Farmers’ Grand Prize and commendations for Excellent Farmers, the Love Rice Donation Ceremony, a Harmony Festival featuring various performances, and several exhibitions and side events offering rich and engaging experiences.

This year’s Busan Farmers’ Grand Prize will be awarded to Choi Tae-bong (Jeonggwan-eup, Gijang-gun) and Kang Gwi-ok (Daejeo 1-dong, Gangseo-gu) for their contributions to community development through the practice of scientific farming and innovative management of future-oriented agriculture.

Choi Tae-bong, president of the Jeonggwan branch of the Korean Advanced Farmers’ Federation, has led the pepper and Yerim Rice producers’ groups, taking the initiative in improving the quality and expanding the markets for local agricultural products. His continuous self-development and implementation of advanced farming practices have significantly contributed to enhancing the region’s agricultural competitiveness.

Kang Gwi-ok, secretary general of the Busan branch of the Korean Women in Agriculture Association, has dedicated herself to empowering female farmers and advancing lifestyle improvement activities. Her achievements include elevating the reputation of Daejeo tomatoes through the production of premium-quality tomatoes. She was recognized as the “Top Tomato Supplier” at Daejeo Agricultural Cooperative in 2003 and received the “100 Million Won Sales Tower” award in 2006.

The Excellent Farmer Award will be given to ten recipients in recognition of their contributions to improving farmers’ rights and advancing regional agriculture and rural development.
Awardees: Choi Yong-tae (Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu), Kang Pil-chan (Cheonseong-dong, Gangseo-gu), Song Young-ui (Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun), Park Jeong-im (Namsan-dong, Geumjeong-gu), Do Gyeong-im (Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun), Kim Sang-guk (Bongnim-dong, Gangseo-gu), Jeong Dong-hwan (Bongnim-dong, Gangseo-gu), Han Sang-jun (Cheolma-myeon, Gijang-gun), Kang Yu-ri (Daejeo 1-dong, Gangseo-gu), and Jang Won-cheol (Jeonggwan-eup, Gijang-gun).

During the Love Rice Donation Ceremony, the Busan Farmers’ Grand Prize winners and the Busan Chapter of the New Farmers’ Association will donate a total of 860 kilograms of rice (500 kg from the Grand Prize winners and 360 kg from the New Farmers’ Association) to the Busan Food Bank to help neighbors in need.

The Harmony Festival will feature a variety of recreational and athletic activities, allowing farmers to participate directly and foster teamwork and unity. The exhibition and side events will showcase agricultural machinery, farm safety equipment, Busan’s specialty rice “Golden Praise (Hwanggeum Yechan),” and hands-on experiences with “Baekgang,” a domestically developed chrysanthemum variety.
