Connecting Books, People, and Busan – Busan Metropolitan Library Celebrates Its 5th Anniversary

Busan Metropolitan Library (hereinafter referred to as “the Library”) announced that it will host the “Busan Metropolitan Library 5th Anniversary Celebration” throughout November to commemorate the fifth anniversary of its opening in November 2020.

Under the theme “Books, People, Busan – Five Years of Stories, Tomorrow Together,” the celebration will feature a variety of cultural programs such as “Meet the Author” (Book Concert), lectures, concerts, and exhibitions, creating a festival where citizens and the library come together to share culture and knowledge.

[Meet the Author, Modeullak Theater]
On November 1, actor and painter Park Shin-yang will take the stage, followed by four distinguished authors on November 2. The events will also include book giveaways and autograph sessions through a drawing.

At 3 p.m. on November 1, actor and painter Park Shin-yang will meet the audience to share candid stories based on his work The Fourth Wall, offering a special encounter with citizens. On November 2 at 3 p.m., the “Meet the Author” Book Concert will continue as part of a collaborative project with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea (KPIPA), featuring four authors selected for the 2025 Literature Sharing Program. The works of these four authors, recognized as this year’s selections, represent the diverse voices that define the present landscape of Korean literature.

The two-day “Meet the Author” sessions will be held at the Modeullak Theater on the first basement level of the library. After each session, selected attendees will receive books by the featured authors through a drawing, followed by autograph sessions where readers can meet the writers in person.

On November 7, Seo Yu-hyun, co-author of Trend Korea 2026, will give a special lecture.

At 4:30 p.m. on November 7, the lecture will explore the ten major consumer and social trends expected for next year, offering insights and opportunities for navigating the age of the great transformation driven by artificial intelligence (AI).

[Concert and Exhibition]
In addition, during the anniversary month, the library will host a commemorative concert and exhibition.

Concert (Modeullak Theater) – At 4 p.m. on November 8, the chamber ensemble “Ensemble Cosmopolitan,” composed of outstanding artists from the Busan region, will perform When Literature Asks, Music Answers at the Modeullak Theater. The concert will present a stage where literature and music harmonize, offering audiences a unique cultural and artistic experience.

Exhibition (Exhibition Hall) – From November 4 to December 5, the exhibition Flowing History, Overlapping Lives will be held at the library’s 2nd-floor exhibition hall. The exhibition will feature new works by young artists alongside paintings depicting architectural landmarks from Busan’s modern and contemporary history, providing an opportunity to reflect on the city’s identity and shared memory.

Some programs require advance registration. Registration for the Meet the Author session featuring the four Literature Sharing authors opens on October 27 at 10 a.m., while registration for the lecture and concert opens on October 28 at 10 a.m. through the “Apply/Reserve” menu on the library website. If seats remain after advance registration closes, on-site registration will be available on the day of each event.
