Busan Metropolitan City Holds Resolution Ceremony for the Busan Representative Team for the 106th National Sports Festival… Vows to Advance as a ‘Sports Paradise City’

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) and the Busan Sports Council (President Jang In-hwa) announced that the resolution ceremony for the Busan representative team participating in the 106th National Sports Festival will be held today (29th) at 1:00 PM in the City Hall 1st floor Grand Auditorium.

This resolution ceremony has been organized ahead of the 106th National Sports Festival, which will be held in Busan for the first time in 25 years from October 17 to 23, to pledge the success of Busan’s representative athletes and to bring together the encouragement and support of citizens.

The event will be attended by about 600 people, including Mayor Park Heong-joon, Lee Jong-hwan (Vice Chair of the Busan Metropolitan Council), Kim Seok-jun (Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education), Jang In-hwa (President of the Busan Sports Council), leaders from the sports community, as well as athletes and officials, to strengthen their determination for victory.

The program will include reports on preparation for the competition, screening of training videos and promotional films, presentation of the team flag, athlete representatives’ oath, and pledges of encouragement and resolution.

Mayor Park will present the team flag to Jang In-hwa, President of the Busan Sports Council, who serves as the team leader. The athletes’ oath will be taken by Heo Min-ho (triathlon, Busan Sports Council) and Kim Ju-ha (basketball, Dongju Girls’ High School), demonstrating their firm resolve.

Additionally, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Busan City Gas, BNK Busan Bank, the Women’s Sports Committee, the Korean Sports Association, and the Senior Sports Association will present encouragement funds to the delegation and offer their support.

Furthermore, a commemorative photo zone will be set up in front of City Hall as a side event, and an “Encouragement Tea Car” will be operated to provide beverages for the athletes.

The city aims to make this festival a unifying event for all citizens and will continue to provide support to ensure athletes can perform at their best.

In particular, Busan Metropolitan City established the Sports Bureau for the first time among metropolitan governments in May this year, activating a control tower for sports administration. Together with the Busan Sports Council, the city has worked to strengthen its capabilities by recruiting outstanding athletes, securing corporate teams, and supporting the establishment of new teams, thereby addressing events in which Busan previously did not participate. The city now aims to place within the top three overall rankings at this National Sports Festival.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “For the first time in 25 years, the National Sports Festival will be held in Busan. You, the athletes, are the pride of Busan and the hope of our citizens. Through achieving your goals, please elevate the status of Busan. With the recent relocation of the professional volleyball team OK Financial Group Okman and the reconstruction of Sajik Baseball Stadium, Busan is emerging as a true sports city. Taking this National Sports Festival as an opportunity, we will complete Busan’s transformation into a ‘Sports Paradise City.’”
