Busan Metropolitan City Holds Joint Campaign to Promote Infectious Disease Prevention During Chuseok Holiday

Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Park Heong-joon announced that the city will hold a “Joint Campaign to Promote Infectious Disease Prevention” tomorrow (September 30) from 14:30 to 16:00 at the Busan Station 2nd floor concourse. The event will be conducted in cooperation with the Gyeongnam Center for Infectious Disease Control, the Busan National Quarantine Station, the Busan Infectious Disease Control and Support Group, and the Dong-gu Public Health Center, targeting train passengers and local citizens.

This campaign has been organized in anticipation of increased domestic and international travel during the Chuseok holiday, with the aim of helping citizens, including those using public transportation, to understand and practice infectious disease prevention guidelines.

The primary goal is to raise public awareness of disease prevention and to strengthen collaboration among related organizations, thereby minimizing the risk of infectious disease outbreaks during the holiday period.

Key activities of the campaign include promotion of infectious disease prevention guidelines and vaccination against COVID-19 and influenza. In addition, handwashing demonstrations, individual consultations, banner and panel displays, and distribution of promotional materials will be provided to share a wide range of information on the prevention of respiratory diseases, waterborne and foodborne infections, and imported infectious diseases.

In particular, to promote proper hygiene practices, a “handwashing experience box (view box)” will be installed, allowing citizens to practice and directly experience correct handwashing methods.

Participants using the view box will be able to visually observe their handwashing process on a screen, thereby encouraging the formation of proper handwashing habits.

Cho Gyu-yul, Director General of the Citizens’ Health Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated,
“The Chuseok holiday is a period of increased domestic and international movement, which raises the risk of infectious disease spread. Through this campaign, we hope citizens will strengthen their awareness of infectious disease prevention and celebrate the holiday in good health by following simple precautions such as handwashing and mask-wearing.”
