Busan Metropolitan City and NAVER Cloud Launch the Nation’s First Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development Council… Busan-style AI Services to Take Off in Earnest!

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that the “1st Busan Metropolitan City–NAVER Cloud Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development Council” will be held on September 22 at 4:00 p.m. in the Ballroom Hall of the Grand Josun Busan in Haeundae-gu.

The event will bring together Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Lee Jun-seung, Executive Director Lim Tae-geon of NAVER Cloud, city officials, representatives from about 20 local IT companies, as well as university and public institution officials, totaling around 100 participants.

This Council is a follow-up to the “Memorandum of Understanding on Implementing Intelligent Administration in Busan,” signed between the City and NAVER Cloud on April 8, and marks the nation’s first initiative to systematically establish and expand Busan-style AI services.

As a collaborative platform involving public, private, and academic stakeholders, it will operate around four main pillars: ▲Joint growth with local IT companies ▲Strengthening of the data ecosystem ▲Training of professional talent ▲Innovation of public services.

The program will include four sessions: a presentation on Busan Metropolitan City’s initiatives for AI-driven administrative innovation, NAVER Cloud’s proposal for public sector AI transformation (AX) strategies, technology presentations by local IT companies, and research findings on AI by local universities.

Following these sessions, an open networking session will be held to facilitate active discussions on the development direction of Busan-style AI services and specific areas of collaboration.

Through the operation of the Council, Busan Metropolitan City plans to share outcomes achieved in the first half of the year, such as data collection, refinement, and the securing of learning datasets. Building upon these achievements, the City will continue to expand administrative innovation results that citizens can experience firsthand.

Furthermore, the Council will be held on a regular basis to systematically advance initiatives including ▲Innovation of administrative services based on AI ▲Joint research and demonstration projects ▲Strengthening of industry–academia–research networks ▲Training of professional talent. Through these efforts, Busan Metropolitan City aims to foster a regional, co-prosperity AI industrial ecosystem and lead the creation of future new industries.

Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs Lee Jun-seung stated, “This Council serves as an opportunity for Busan to enhance administrative efficiency through AI innovation while also securing new growth drivers for regional industries. With the collaborative efforts of Busan Metropolitan City and NAVER Cloud, as well as the joint participation of private enterprises, universities, and research institutions, we will expand Busan-style AI service models nationwide.”
