Busan Metropolitan City Hosts the “2025 I’m in Busan Day” to Promote “Energy Transition with Everyone’s Participation”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the “2025 I’m in Busan Day” on September 19 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the City Hall lobby and the Deullaknalak Open Library.

This event is co-hosted by the City and SK Innovation E&S, organized by Underdogs and Busan Technopark, and will be joined by more than 10 hydrogen and eco-friendly energy companies, representatives from academia, industry, and research institutions, as well as approximately 700 citizens.

“I’m in Busan” is a collaborative platform created by citizens, businesses, and universities. Through this event, a venue will be provided to realize the core vision of the “7th Energy Plan of Busan Metropolitan City”—“Energy Transition with Everyone’s Participation.” In particular, it is significant as a coexistence cooperation model jointly promoted by a major corporation and a local government.

The main programs consist of exhibitions and hands-on experiences, forums and lectures, a university student ideathon competition, and citizen-participation campaigns.

The ideathon competition: a compound of “Idea” and “Marathon,” refers to a contest in which participants form teams and intensively derive problem-solving ideas within a limited time.

• ●In the “Exhibition and Experience Zone,” technologies and products of hydrogen and eco-friendly energy companies will be introduced, along with programs such as making solar-powered car kits for children and youth, and a carbon neutrality experience activity.

• ●The “Forum and Lectures” will be held under the theme “A City Changing Together, a Sustainable Future of Busan Created by Citizens.” Professors Choi Kyungsik of Silla University and Kim Minseok of Hanyang University will deliver keynote speeches. Under the theme “Six Perspectives on a Sustainable Busan,” the “Insight Speech” session will feature the participation of the City, businesses, youth, and designers.

• ●In the “University Student Ideathon Competition,” about 40 students from six universities in Busan will present creative proposals such as waste reduction, marine plastic upcycling, energy-saving apps, and eco-friendly shared transportation models. The winning team will be awarded the Mayor of Busan’s Prize.

• ●As part of the “Citizen Participation Campaign,” events such as the Carbon Neutral Practice Challenge and I’m in Busan membership registration event will be held, with eco-friendly souvenirs provided to participants.

Through this event, the City expects citizens to directly experience carbon neutrality and eco-friendly energy transition in their daily lives, and for the regional coexistence energy transition model—where businesses and universities participate together—to be spread more widely.

Dong-seok Park, Director General of the Advanced Industry Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “I’m in Busan Day is a venue to implement the ‘Energy Transition with Everyone’s Participation’ proposed in the 7th Energy Plan of Busan Metropolitan City. In particular, the joint hosting with SK Innovation E&S will serve as a model case where a major corporation and a local government cooperate to contribute to solving community issues.”
