Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Park Heong-joon announced on September 11 that Nah Ken, Chief City Designer of Busan and Endowed Professor at Dongseo University, was reappointed as an executive board member of the World Design Organization (WDO) at its 34th General Assembly held in London.

The World Design Organization (WDO), founded in 1975, is the world’s largest international design body, with 212 member organizations from 35 countries currently participating. Its mission is to advance economic development and improve quality of life through industrial design, with major policies determined by an executive board of 11 members, including the current and incoming presidents.

Nah Ken first connected with the WDO in 2010 when he served as General Director of World Design Capital Seoul, and since then he has actively engaged with member organizations and leaders of the international design community.

Through this reappointment, he will serve another two-year term as an executive board member, extending his service to a total of four years with consecutive terms, and is being mentioned as a potential candidate for the next presidency.

As Chief City Designer of Busan, he has been leading the city’s urban design innovation. His reappointment is expected to further strengthen Busan’s global standing as World Design Capital 2028 (WDC) and enable him to play a central role in advancing design innovation in the city.

Nah Ken stated, “As a board member of the World Design Organization, I will fulfill my responsibility in opening a new future for Busan as the World Design Capital,” adding, “I will further strengthen international cooperation so that Busan can rise as an inclusive global hub city of design.”
