Busan Metropolitan City to Host the Final Episode of the “Seven Beach Earthing Challenge” at Songdo Beach

Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Park Heong-joon announced that the city will hold the seventh and final episode of the “Barefoot-Friendly City Busan, Seven Beach Earthing Challenge” on Saturday, September 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Songdo Beach.

The event is co-hosted by Busan Metropolitan City, the Busan Metropolitan Council, the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, BNK Financial Group, and Busan Ilbo, and is organized by the Busan Barefoot-Friendly City Movement Headquarters. It is also sponsored by local companies including BNK Busan Bank and Busan Mirae IFC Health Screening Center.

The “Seven Beach Earthing Challenge” is a program that allows participants to experience earthing—walking barefoot on sand and embracing the sea breeze—at Busan’s seven representative beaches. It has contributed to enhancing citizens’ physical and mental health as well as spreading marine healing content.

Starting with the proclamation ceremony at Haeundae Beach in April last year, the challenge has traveled through Gwangalli, Dadaepo, Songjeong, Ilgwang, and Imrang Beaches, concluding this year at Songdo Beach.

Approximately 1,000 citizens are expected to participate in this event, which will include celebratory performances, earthing course guidance, warm-up stretching, and the Seven Beach Earthing Challenge. The Songdo episode will feature a 1.4-kilometer round-trip course, which participants may walk individually and freely at their convenience. Participants will start from the beach stage in front of the Songdo Marine Sports Center, walk to the turning point, and return naturally to disperse.

In addition, a medical center will be operated on-site, where participants can experience body composition analysis and brainwave/pulse wave examinations.

Applications will be accepted until the day of the event on the Seven Beach Earthing Challenge website “Barefoot Busan” (earthing.busan.com), with free participation for up to 1,000 people on a first-come, first-served basis.

All participants will receive complimentary souvenirs such as bottled water and shoe bags. Those who completed all six previous challenges will also be awarded a completion medal and a free round-trip ticket for the Songdo Marine Cable Car.

As parking spaces near the venue are limited, the use of public transportation is strongly recommended.

Ahn Cheol-soo, Director General of the Green Urban Bureau, remarked, “As Korea’s first beach and the original seaside resort, Songdo Beach, with its fine and soft sand, is an ideal place for earthing experiences and a marine healing space where the city and beach are naturally connected. We hope that many citizens will use this event as an opportunity to reconnect with the sea and nature and to complete their personal wellness journey.”
