Busan Metropolitan City Becomes the First Metropolitan Government to Receive the “Rebooting Local Era Grand Prize” in the Industry and Job Creation Category

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will receive the Grand Prize in the Industry and Job Creation category at the “1st Rebooting Local Era Grand Prize” ceremony, held during the Yonhap News TV 13th Economic Forum, taking place today (15th) at 11:30 a.m. at Lotte Hotel Seoul.

This year’s Economic Forum, themed “Finding the Path of Korea’s Economy in the Regions,” features the newly established “1st Rebooting Local Era Grand Prize” ceremony.

The Rebooting Local Era Grand Prize honors local governments that have achieved outstanding innovative results in five categories: ▲Local Administrative Innovation ▲Industry and Job Creation ▲Youth and Family Settlement ▲Cultural Vitality in the Regions ▲Special Awards.

The event will be attended by more than 250 distinguished figures from central government and political circles, including ▲Mayor Park Heong-joon ▲Ahn Su-hoon, CEO of Yonhap News TV ▲Yoon Ho-jung, Minister of the Interior and Safety ▲Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, among others.

Busan was highly evaluated for achieving significant results in the fields of industry and employment through innovative growth strategies that leverage regional strengths in logistics, finance, and advanced digital industries, going beyond the Seoul metropolitan-centered growth paradigm.

As a Global Hub City, Busan has:
▲ Driven the construction of Gadeokdo New Airport, strengthening a tri-port logistics base that integrates land, sea, and air;
▲ Promoted advanced new industries such as artificial intelligence and quantum technology, as well as the advancement of the financial sector, attracting investment worth 14 trillion KRW over three years of the 8th civil administration.

Youth employment has reached a record high, and for the first time, the number of full-time employees exceeded one million, marking remarkable employment achievements.

In addition, Busan has received wide recognition for:
▲ Ranking 2nd in Asia in the Global Smart Center Index;
▲ Ranking 6th in Asia among “most livable cities”;
▲ Surpassing 2 million inbound tourists in the shortest period on record.

Meanwhile, at today’s forum, Lee Jun-seung, Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs, will deliver a keynote address introducing Busan’s achievements as a “Global Hub City” and presenting visions and strategies to advance into a “Global Maritime Hub City.”

With this award, the city plans to further enhance the competitiveness of specialized industries such as digital and maritime finance, foster the growth of advanced new industries such as power semiconductors and future mobility, and elevate Busan into a world-class hub city of innovation where businesses, talent, and capital converge.

Mayor Park Heong-joon stated, “This award is the official recognition of Busan’s efforts to leap forward as a Global Hub City,” adding, “We will continue to do our utmost to enable Busan to become a growth base for balanced national development and a leading ‘Global Maritime Hub City.’”
