Busan Metropolitan City to Host the “2025 Companion Animal Walking Festival”… Advancing Toward a Pet-Friendly City

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host the “2025 Busan Companion Animal Walking Festival” on September 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at APEC Naru Park in Haeundae-gu.

This festival is designed as a citizen participation program where pet owners and their animals can walk and enjoy together, with the goal of spreading a mature pet culture and building Busan as a “pet-friendly city.”

The main programs include a companion animal walking competition, citizen participation promotion and experience booths, and various side events.

The companion animal walking competition will involve 300 pre-registered households walking a course of about 2 kilometers, completing missions by collecting stickers at designated spots. Finishers will receive commemorative gifts. Participants will naturally experience the value of wholesome leisure activities while spending time with family and pets. For safety, the Pet Patrol Unit will join as pacemakers.

At the promotion and experience booths, activities will include promoting the adoption of abandoned animals by Busan Metropolitan City, an anti-animal abuse campaign, free pet grooming, and hands-on programs such as making pet name tags, toys, and aromatherapy items to encourage the spread of pet culture and practical action in daily life.

Additional events will feature pet tarot readings, pet caricatures, and an OX quiz with prize giveaways. Content produced on-site will be shared through online promotions to further spread citizen engagement and excitement.

The city expects that this festival will allow citizens to experience wholesome leisure activities with their pets and broaden consensus on creating a pet-friendly urban environment.

Ahn Cheol-soo, Director General of the Green City Bureau, stated, “Through this festival, our city will take another step forward as a ‘pet-friendly city,’ and I ask for the active participation and interest of many citizens to establish a mature pet culture and advance the creation of a pet-friendly city.”
