Busan Metropolitan City to Host the 2025 Busan Construction Companies–Major Construction Firms Co-Prosperity Day

Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Park Heong-joon announced that the city will host the “2025 Busan Construction Companies–Major Construction Firms Co-Prosperity Day” for two days, from September 11 to 12, at Westin Josun Busan in Haeundae and the North Port Phase 1·2 Redevelopment Site.

The “Co-Prosperity Day for Busan Construction Companies–Major Construction Firms” is an event aimed at revitalizing the local construction industry and promoting mutual growth between regional construction companies and large corporations.

This year’s event has been organized to strengthen communication and cooperation between Busan-based construction companies and leading domestic construction firms, while expanding opportunities for project orders in large-scale initiatives such as the North Port redevelopment. Now in its fifth year, the event follows last year’s successful gathering.

The theme of this year’s event is “A Safe Busan Built Together, a Future Opened through Co-Prosperity.” Participating will be 19 of Korea’s top construction firms by construction capacity ranking, along with 40 specialized construction companies from Busan that have taken part in the “Scale Up” capacity-building program.

The “Scale Up” program, launched in 2018, is designed to help small and medium-sized construction companies in Busan become registered as partners with large firms. To date, 179 Busan construction companies have participated in the program’s advanced courses.

This year’s event has been structured to provide substantial consultations that will focus on expanding partner registrations with large corporations and boosting order acquisitions for Busan construction companies. In addition, supplementary co-prosperity workshops will be held to further strengthen collaboration between major corporations and local companies, offering a practical venue for meaningful communication and cooperation.

Busan distributed promotional materials of the participating companies to major construction firms in advance to encourage order expansion, and some corporations even requested additional meetings ahead of time.

On the first day, September 11, from 14:00 at Westin Josun Busan, one-on-one co-prosperity mentoring will take place at 20 consultation booths. Following this, a co-prosperity workshop will provide additional opportunities for networking, exchange, and in-depth consultation, particularly focusing on companies that did not have direct mentoring matches.

Specialized construction companies from Busan in five areas—machinery, equipment, electricity, information and communications, and firefighting—participating in the “Scale Up” program will join 19 major corporations for one-on-one mentoring sessions. Busan construction companies will present their strengths and technologies, while large corporations will share their know-how in securing on-site orders, thereby creating opportunities to identify outstanding local firms.

Additionally, the International Contractors Association of Korea will operate a promotional booth to support overseas expansion of Busan’s specialized construction companies. The booth will provide information on various support programs such as overseas construction consulting services and guidance on international project procedures, aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of Korea’s construction industry.

On the second day, September 12, Busan Metropolitan City and leading firms such as GS E&C will visit the North Port redevelopment site with nine major construction companies. They will discuss strategies for expanding large-scale project orders by local companies in relation to Busan’s promotion as a global maritime city.

Participating companies will board the Busan Port information vessel Saenuri-ho to gain an understanding of the redevelopment area, and visit the promotional hall at the Busan Port International Passenger Terminal to review the current redevelopment status and port facilities. They will also tour nearby sites such as the waterfront park, Busan Opera House, North Port Marina, and Busan Station to hold discussions on expanding orders for large-scale projects.

Lim Kyung-mo, Director General of the Urban Innovation & Balanced Development Office of Busan Metropolitan City, commented, “Although the domestic construction market is experiencing some stagnation, we expect construction and real estate demand to recover due to factors such as the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, strengthening of marine industries, and growth in tourism and logistics functions. In particular, with the North Port redevelopment project and the revitalization of private redevelopment initiatives, Busan’s construction market is forecasted to embark on a new path of growth in the second half of this year. We hope that this meeting between Busan construction companies and major corporations will strengthen the organic solidarity needed for this progress.”
