Busan Metropolitan City Expands Family-Friendly Certified Company Benefits to Daegu – Boosting Benefits and Regional Exchange

Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Park Heong-joon announced on September 9 that an agreement was signed at Daegu Civic Gymnasium to expand the region where employees of family-friendly certified companies can use their benefits (incentives) to include Daegu.

Through this agreement, seven institutions in the Daegu area—including Daegu Yakryeongsi Korean Medicine Experience Town, Dongseong-ro Spark, Resort Spa Valley, Manjae Food Co., Ltd., Aqua World Co., Ltd., E-World Co., Ltd., Hotel Inter-Burgo EXCO—will provide various benefits such as discounts on admission, usage tickets, and product purchases.

This follows Busan Metropolitan City’s initiative last year as the first in the nation to offer family-friendly certified company benefits (incentives) across five provinces. After expanding to Jeju in July and Daegu in September this year, the coverage has grown. Consequently, employees of about 1,500 companies, including 363 in Busan, can now enjoy more extensive benefits.

In July last year, Busan Metropolitan City signed agreements with Jeonbuk, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, and Jeju, along with Daegu, enabling reciprocal use of incentives at five institutions in Busan, including Busan Aquarium, LCT Majiniment, Jeil Aviation Travel Agency Co., Ltd., Club Dioasis Co., Ltd., and KidZania Busan.

Family-friendly certified companies are those awarded certification for exemplary implementation of family-friendly systems such as flexible work, childbirth and childcare support. Busan Metropolitan City is pursuing various policies to expand certified companies and promote a work-life balance culture.

Major policies include:

• ●Support for consulting and on-site evaluations for family-friendly certification

• ●Guidance on work-life balance systems and workplace education

• ●Discovery of benefits (incentives) for employees of certified companies

• ●Operation of corporate–citizen participation programs and campaigns

Park Seol-yeon, Director General of the Women and Family Affairs Bureau, stated:
“Daegu is a region within an hour’s distance from Busan, with good accessibility. Therefore, we expect that this expansion of benefit usage will be widely utilized by Busan’s certified company employees with their families. Since last year, consecutive agreements to expand benefit regions are contributing to revitalizing regional exchange and spreading a culture of work-life balance.”
