Busan Yachting Center Redevelopment: Implementation of ‘Phased Closure of Parking Areas’

Busan Metropolitan City Sports Facility Management Office (hereinafter referred to as the “Office”) announced that, in accordance with the redevelopment construction of the Busan Yachting Center, it will implement the “Phased Closure of Parking Areas at the Yachting Center” beginning September 15.

Currently, the Office provides approximately 500 parking spaces free of charge within the Yachting Center. However, starting September 15, approximately 100 parking spaces located on the left side of the main building (toward Haeundae Beach) will be closed first for the relocation of trees and other facilities. Subsequently, all parking areas will be closed as redevelopment construction advances.

The parking area on the right side of the main building (toward the Busan Film Studio) will remain available until tree relocation work begins.

To minimize inconvenience to citizens, the Office is taking measures such as cracking down on parking by vehicles unrelated to the Yachting Center and operating nearby public parking lots 24 hours a day.

[Parking Enforcement] On July 1, the Office issued a public notice restricting parking by vehicles not related to the Yachting Center. In particular, it began administrative enforcement procedures against camper vans and long-term abandoned vehicles.

[24-Hour Operation of Public Parking Lots in Phases] In addition, to alleviate inconvenience caused by the closure of parking areas, two nearby public parking lots are being operated 24 hours a day in phases.

• ●Public Parking Lot No. 1 in front of the Yachting Center: 231 spaces, operating 24 hours a day since August 23

• ●Public Parking Lot No. 2 in front of the Yachting Center: 79 spaces, to be operated 24 hours a day within this year after facility maintenance

Meanwhile, to fully advance the “Redevelopment of the Busan Yachting Center,” the city began a comprehensive cleanup in April last year of 323 unauthorized moored vessels and jet skis on land at the Yachting Center.

During the administrative enforcement period, the city successfully completed the cleanup without a single physical conflict by holding prior public hearings, receiving written submissions of opinions, and conducting direct visits by responsible officials to all vessel owners to actively persuade voluntary removal.

Kim Dong-cheol, Director of the Sports Facility Management Office, stated, “For the smooth implementation of redevelopment construction and to ensure the safety of citizens and visitors, it is unavoidable to close the parking areas of the Yachting Center in phases. We ask citizens and visitors to actively cooperate by using public transportation and nearby public parking lots to help ensure the safe and swift progress of the redevelopment project.”
