Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum to Operate “Visiting History Museum” Elementary School Education Program in the Second Half of 2025

Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum (hereinafter referred to as the Museum) announced that it will operate the “Visiting History Museum” program from October 14 to December 5 for 5th-grade elementary school classes in the city to help students better understand their hometown, Busan. The program will be held 40 times in total on Tuesdays through Fridays during this period.

This program is an experiential class jointly operated by the Museum and elementary schools in Busan, where Museum instructors visit schools directly to conduct classes by class unit.

Under the theme of “My Hometown, Busan as an Open Port,” the program consists of audiovisual education and coloring activities. During the audiovisual education session, students will learn about Busan, including the origins of place names and its geographical characteristics, followed by an exploration of the various aspects of Busan as an open port.

After the audiovisual session, students will participate in a coloring activity using the Haeun Diary (Haeun Ilrok), written by Min Geon-ho, who worked as an official at the Port Authority during the open-port era, to observe depictions of Busan at that time and color them themselves.

The target participants are 5th-grade elementary school classes in Busan. Each school may apply for up to four classes per day, with two classes in the morning and two in the afternoon. The program is provided free of charge.

Each school’s program coordinator should collect applications by class, compile them into an application form, and submit it by email (kjh920908@korea.kr) between September 22 and September 24, no later than 5:00 p.m. The results will be posted on September 30 in the announcements section of the Museum’s website (busan.go.kr/mmch/index).

Kim Ki-yong, Director of the Busan Modern & Contemporary History Museum, stated, “The ‘Visiting History Museum’ program is designed to help elementary students learn about their hometown, Busan, in an easy and enjoyable way. It will be even more effective if they later visit the Museum in person to view the exhibitions.”
