Mayor Park Heong-joon Meets with Dewey Moore, Consul & Principal Officer, U.S. Consulate Busan, to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that on September 3 at 4:30 p.m., Mayor Park met with Dewey Moore, the new Consul & Principal Officer of the U.S. Consulate Busan who assumed office on August 18, to discuss cooperative relations and future development between the City and the United States

Mayor Park welcomed the appointment of Consul & Principal Officer Moore, who has deep ties to Korea and extensive experience, and asked for his efforts to ensure that the achievements of close cooperation between Busan and the United States continue to develop further.

In particular, Mayor Park stated, “Busan is a hub city of ports, logistics, and new industries. Recently, it was officially designated as the World Design Capital 2028 and successfully secured the hosting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2026, gaining international recognition for its city brand and creative industry capacity, while reaffirming its status as an international conference (MICE) city.”

He added, “The number of foreign tourists visiting Busan exceeded 2 million as of July this year, with American visitors ranking fourth among them. We kindly request the continued attention and support of the U.S. Consulate Busan.”

In response, Consul & Principal Officer Moore said, “I was able to see firsthand that Busan has grown into a world-class city. The Korea-U.S. alliance is already strong, but I will actively work to further strengthen the alliance and expand cooperation with Busan. Next year will mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, with many celebratory events planned.”

Mayor Park concluded the meeting by saying, “Our city will continue to work closely with the U.S. Consulate, deepening the friendship and trust between the two countries. I hope for more active exchanges related to next year’s 250th anniversary of U.S. independence and expect to play an active bridging role in further advancing our bilateral cooperation.”
