Busan Metropolitan City to Host the “Multi-Talented Large Family Contest”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will recruit families to participate in the “Multi-Talented Large Family Contest,” which will be held to mark the 18th Large Family Day this year, from today (September 5) through October 15.

This contest, being held for the first time, is designed to emphasize the value and importance of large families while fostering a childbirth- and parenting-friendly social atmosphere.

A large family is defined as a household with two or more children registered as residents of Busan Metropolitan City, with at least one child under the age of 19.

The contest will provide families with the chance to demonstrate their talents in various fields, such as singing, playing musical instruments, and dancing—any performance suitable for the stage is welcome. Families that showcase energetic performances based on harmony and consideration among siblings will be given priority in selection. Any large family registered in Busan Metropolitan City is eligible to participate.

The contest consists of an online preliminary round and an offline final. Fifteen families selected through the online screening will advance to the final round, which will take place on November 1 on a special stage in the Grand Conference Room at City Hall.

During the final, families will be evaluated comprehensively on teamwork, stage completion, and other factors. The top five families (one Grand Prize, two Excellence Prizes, and two Merit Prizes) will receive the Mayor’s Award.

On the day of the final, additional events will be held alongside the contest, including an awards ceremony for exemplary large families, childbearing-friendly organizations (companies), and public officials recognized for their contributions to supporting large families; an exhibition of winning works from the children’s drawing contest; and various side events. Together, these will create a festive celebration of “Large Family Day.”

Families wishing to participate can apply between today (September 5) and October 15 by referring to the announcement posted on the city’s “Like You Cherished” website (www.busan.go.kr/childcare/childcare0603), and submitting an application form and video via Naver Form and email (mjha83@korea.kr).

Park Seol-yeon, Director General of the Women and Family Bureau, stated, “In 2008, our city became the first in the nation to designate and commemorate ‘Large Family Day.’ As the number of marriages and the birthrate begin to rebound, we organized this contest to spread positive awareness of the precious value of large families and the concept of shared parenting. We hope this event will be an opportunity for everyone to experience the warmth and happiness of large families.”
