Busan Metropolitan City and Petdoc Sign Agreement to Promote the Companion Animal Industry and Improve Awareness of Pet Culture

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that on August 28 it signed a business agreement with Petdoc Co., Ltd., operator of the companion animal funeral brand “4Paws,” to foster the companion animal industry and improve awareness of pet culture.

Attending the signing ceremony were Ahn Cheol-su, Director General of the Green City Bureau of Busan, and Oh Tae-hwan, CEO of Petdoc, among others. The participants agreed to establish a cooperative framework for mutual growth to make Busan a “pet-friendly city.”

This agreement was arranged in response to the increasing population of companion animal owners, aiming to foster the related industry as a future growth sector and establish a mature pet culture so that people and animals can live happily together in a “pet-friendly city.”

Busan Metropolitan City and Petdoc plan to pursue various collaborative projects, including support for start-ups and employment in the companion animal sector, provision of job training, promotional and educational initiatives to improve awareness of pet culture, and support for companion animal funeral expenses.

The city expects that combining Petdoc’s corporate platform and expertise (know-how) with its own efforts will create strong synergy in revitalizing the companion animal industry and transforming it into a future-oriented industry.

In particular, by linking this agreement with the city’s ongoing companion animal industry policies, Busan plans to expand its private–public cooperative framework into a broader model of mutual growth.

Moreover, as the city has continuously pursued various policies such as expansion of companion animal infrastructure, protection and adoption support for abandoned animals, citizen-participation-based education and events, and nurturing of related industries, this agreement is expected to enable the implementation of even more effective policies.

Ahn Cheol-su, Director General of the Green City Bureau, stated, “I hope today’s agreement will open a bright future for the companion animal industry and provide a stepping-stone for our city to leap forward as a pet-friendly city. We will actively support the sustainable development of the companion animal industry and the establishment of a sound pet culture so that this becomes an important turning point in revitalizing the local economy.”
