Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that the “2025 BU-UL-GYEONG Civil Engineering Convention,” in which construction experts from industry, academia, research, government, and students in the BU-UL-GYEONG region will participate, is being held today (August 28) at 9:00 AM at Dong-A University’s Bumin Campus.

The “2025 BU-UL-GYEONG Civil Engineering Convention,” under the theme “Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam for a Sustainable Future,” is a comprehensive academic festival jointly prepared by 2,868 construction experts and students from the region.

With experts possessing extensive experience in addressing regional issues such as sinkholes, the event will serve as a venue to present innovative technologies, discuss research findings, and explore sustainable development strategies for the BU-UL-GYEONG region.

Major figures including the President of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers, the President of Dong-A University, and the President of Busan Port Authority will attend, with Mayor Park Heong-joon delivering a keynote lecture on “15-Minute City.”

Mayor Park will share the vision and strategy of the “15-Minute City” concept for Busan, present the city’s efforts and achievements thus far, and outline key tasks to promote and vitalize the development of the “15-Minute City.”

Following this, Song Sang-geun, President of Busan Port Authority, will deliver a special lecture titled “Busan Port, Dreaming of the Sea Together with Youth,” and Jo Sung-min, Director of Research at the Korea Expressway Corporation, will present an invited lecture on “Building Sustainable Roads through Digital Innovation.”

Specialized sessions will also be held on topics such as urban safety and sinkholes, construction technologies for high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities, road infrastructure technologies, and coastal and ocean space development.

In addition, Dohyun Park, Head of Equinor Korea, a global offshore wind power company from Norway, will give a career lecture. Programs for the next generation of civil engineers, such as graduate students and local university students, will include career and employment lectures, a corporate fair (“Finding Promising Local Companies”), the Civil Engineering Golden Bell, and the Creative Integrated Design Capstone Competition.

Notably, 11 companies from the BU-UL-GYEONG region are participating in the corporate fair, introducing their businesses and offering consultation sessions for local students, providing an opportunity to gain deeper insights into regional construction firms.

Mayor Park emphasized, “For Busan to leap forward as a global hub city, it is essential to invest in infrastructure that strengthens the city’s future competitiveness—such as the creation of the 15-Minute City, early opening of Gadeokdo New Airport, undergrounding of the Gyeongbu Railway Line, and construction of the Nakdong River crossing bridges including Daejeo, Eomgung, and Jangnak Bridges. Safe and efficient construction is possible thanks to the research and technical support of the Society, and we will continue to work with academia and businesses to revitalize the local economy and spread waves of innovation.”
