Busan Metropolitan City and Microsoft to Begin Full-Scale Training of Specialists in Regional Data Center Operations

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will begin the full-scale operation of the “Microsoft Datacenter Academy (MS DCA)” in September, in collaboration with the global IT company Microsoft, as part of a joint initiative to train specialists in data center operations.

The city signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Microsoft in Seattle, U.S., this past January, and has since finalized a phased education program through practical consultations on curriculum design.

The first stage, the “Green Data Center Specialist Training” funded by the national government, will begin in September, followed by the second stage, the “Microsoft Datacenter Academy” program, in October. Among the graduates, outstanding participants will be selected to enter the third stage, the “Busan Microsoft Data Center On-Site Internship,” starting in January next year, where they will gain practical field experience.

The “Microsoft Datacenter Academy” is a global education program designed to cultivate talent in the fields of cloud computing and information technology (IT). It is part of Microsoft’s “Datacenter Community Pledge,” carried out in collaboration with local education partners, to provide education, certification, scholarships and stipends, mentoring, and practical experience, with the goal of expanding youth employment opportunities.

This integrated program combines theory and practice in server, network, and cloud fields, offering a total of 462 hours of free training. The program will recruit 30 trainees, with top graduates given the opportunity to participate in on-site internships at the Busan Microsoft Data Center.

Cho Jung-myung, Head of Microsoft’s Northeast Asia Datacenter Community, stated, “Establishing the Datacenter Academy in Busan reflects Microsoft’s commitment to acting as a responsible neighbor by contributing to the prosperity and welfare of local communities. We will continue to build and operate data centers responsibly for the benefit of society.”

Jeong Na-young, Director General of the Future Technology Strategy Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, remarked, “This collaboration with a global company will provide quality jobs for young people and serve as a turning point in building the foundation to grow Busan into a data hub of Northeast Asia. Busan Metropolitan City will fully support the seamless operation of the ‘Microsoft Datacenter Academy.’”
