Busan–Castelldefels, Beginning a Global Culinary Exchange Between Korea and Spain!

Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Park Heong-joon announced that on August 22, Mayor Manuel Reyes López of Castelldefels and City Councilor Guillermo Massana Romero visited Busan to discuss ways to exchange and cooperate in culinary culture between the two cities.

On that morning, at 11:00 a.m. in the City Hall International Protocol Office, the Director General of the Citizens’ Health Bureau of Busan met with Mayor Manuel Reyes López and Councilor Guillermo Massana Romero of Castelldefels. Ahead of the 2026 Délice Network Annual General Assembly to be held in Castelldefels, the meeting laid the foundation for culinary cultural exchange and cooperation between the two cities.

This visit was arranged to promote joint cooperation projects based on the culinary resources of Busan and Castelldefels and to pledge continuous collaboration and mutual growth through the Global Culinary Cities Exchange Network (Délice Network).

The two cities discussed cooperation measures such as reciprocal invitations for the Busan International Food Expo, the Busan Marina Chef Challenge, and the Castelldefels Culinary Festival, student exchange programs in culinary majors, the joint hosting of culinary festivals, exploring joint cooperation projects through the Délice Network, and operating regular exchange programs. They agreed to work together to establish a sustainable culinary cooperation network.

Mayor Manuel Reyes López of Castelldefels stated, “It is an honor to have this opportunity for exchange. I would like to invite Busan to the Délice Network Annual General Assembly to be held in our city in 2026. I also wish to visit Busan for the 2026 Busan International Food Expo and Busan Marina Chef Challenge to showcase traditional cuisine together with our city’s chefs.”

Busan Metropolitan City welcomed this intention.

Meanwhile, Busan is working to position the restaurant industry as a core driver of urban competitiveness in its efforts to build the city into a world-class culinary city.

Representative achievements in food policy include the publication of the Busan’s Taste Guidebook, which introduces famous restaurants and culinary stories of Busan; creative recipes based on local ingredients; the B-FOOD AI recipe platform; the nation’s first AI-based multilingual menu platform Busanollang.

Director General Cho Gyuyul of the Citizens’ Health Bureau stated, “We expect that through this visit, Busan and Castelldefels will establish a close cooperative relationship in the culinary field. Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen friendly and cooperative ties with culinary cities around the world to ensure that Busan secures its place as a global culinary city.”
