The Future Leaders Shaping Busan… Busan Metropolitan City Holds the Launch Ceremony for the “2025 Busan Children’s Participation Committee”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the launch ceremony of the “2025 Busan Children’s Participation Committee” tomorrow (23rd) at 10:00 AM in the City Hall International Conference Room to promote children’s rights.

The “Children’s Participation Committee” refers to the “Children’s Rights Committee” and the “Children and Youth Participatory Budgeting Committee,” which are operated annually by the City. It aims to recognize children as rights-holders and to create a happy city for children by spreading a social atmosphere that listens to their voices. Through discussions, proposals, and democratic communication activities, children can develop their interest in the community, enhance their ability to recognize problems, and strengthen their capacity as rights-holders.

Since July, the City has recruited members of the Children’s Participation Committee through various methods such as public applications and school recommendations for elementary, middle, and high school students residing in Busan, selecting a total of 63 children.

This launch ceremony marks the first activity of this year’s committee. About 100 participants, including committee members, university student volunteers serving as activity supporters, parents, and institutional representatives, will attend to learn about children’s rights and build solidarity (teamwork) with the members.
The program will include a project briefing, the presentation of appointment letters, an oath by a children’s representative, children’s rights education, and an orientation.

Starting with the launch ceremony, members will actively engage in various activities until November according to their respective programs to promote children’s rights and make proactive proposals.
The “Children’s Rights Committee” will carry out activities aimed at improving social awareness of children as rights-holders. Members will set topics and conduct surveys and monitoring on the status of children’s rights in families, daily life, and schools. They will then share their opinions through small-group activities and discussion sessions, eventually producing a children’s rights guide.
The “Children and Youth Participatory Budgeting Committee” will receive education on participatory budgeting to understand budgeting procedures and finance. Through small-group activities, teams will propose and present budget policies. The finalized policy proposals will be submitted as applications for the participatory budgeting program.
