Busan Metropolitan City to Host ‘Big Palm Garden Contest’ for Citizens to Create and Enjoy Together

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the “Big Palm Garden Contest” in connection with the 2025 Busan Garden Show, which will be held on October 16. The event is designed to provide opportunities for anyone to easily experience and enjoy gardens, while delivering hopeful messages and fostering a culture of everyday gardening in line with the theme “Joyful Movements at Samnak! Three Joys Garden Festa.”

The Busan Garden Show is a large-scale event held to promote garden culture and revitalize the garden industry, featuring garden exhibitions and various garden culture programs.

The city will provide the 10 teams that pass the first round of document screening (9.10.~9.15.) with a garden creation grant of 1.2 million KRW and support such as land and soil, enabling them to produce and exhibit a garden of 12㎡ (4m×3m). A second on-site evaluation (10.14.) will then be conducted, during which experts will comprehensively assess creativity, feasibility, and design completeness.

Based on these evaluations, the city will select and notify the winners: ▲Grand Prize (1 team, 1 million KRW), ▲Excellence Award (1 team, 800,000 KRW), ▲Merit Award (2 teams, 600,000 KRW each), and ▲President of the Busan Landscape Architecture Association Award (6 teams, commemorative gifts). The ten final works will be displayed at the Busan Garden Show in October, and the awards ceremony will take place on the opening stage on October 16.

Any citizen of Busan interested in garden creation may participate individually or as a team, presenting not only traditional gardens but also experimental and creative designs.

The application period runs from 9 a.m. on 8.15. to 6 p.m. on 9.5. Applicants must submit the required documents, including the application form and garden creation plan, via email (busanjsm@korea.kr).
