Busan Metropolitan City Appoints Lee Se-yong as New President of Busan Metropolitan City Medical Center

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced the appointment of former Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Busan Metropolitan City Medical Center, Lee Se-yong, as the 19th President of the Center. The appointment ceremony will take place today (August 11) at 10:00 a.m. in the 7th-floor Protocol Room of City Hall, and his three-year term will begin on the date of appointment.

President Lee previously served for 21 years at Busan Metropolitan City Medical Center, treating patients as a physician and participating in hospital management as Director of Medical Services. He later built further experience in private medical institutions, making him well-versed in both the internal and external affairs of the Center and recognized as an ideal fit for the role. The City expects his extensive experience across the medical sector and his firm philosophy on public healthcare to greatly contribute to resolving the Center’s current management difficulties and shortage of medical staff.

Meanwhile, President Lee was deemed “qualified” on July 30 following a thorough review of his management capabilities, policy execution skills, and vision for the future management of the Center during the personnel hearing of the Busan Metropolitan Council.

Ahead of his appointment, President Lee stated, “The essence of public healthcare lies in taking responsibility for medical areas that the private sector finds difficult to handle. As an ‘acute care-centered hospital’ responsible for severe, emergency, and essential medical services, Busan Metropolitan City Medical Center will prioritize restoring the quality of medical care and establishing its identity, aiming to become the hospital that citizens trust first.”

Mayor Park Heong-joon remarked, “Busan Metropolitan City Medical Center plays a pivotal role in strengthening public health services, supporting treatment for vulnerable groups, and preventing and responding to infectious diseases. I hope that, as the head of a public medical institution, you will serve with a special sense of mission and responsibility to protect the lives and health of Busan citizens from the threats of various infectious diseases that are evolving in unpredictable ways.”
