Busan Concert Hall to Host HELLO Opera “Maestro”

Classical Busan announced that it will present “HELLO Opera Maestro” this September at Busan Concert Hall.

The HELLO Opera series was produced by the city prior to the full opening of Busan Concert Hall to expand the base of classical music and cultivate future audiences. Last year (2024), it was performed for over 3,000 people at five district and county cultural centers in Busan.

“Maestro” is a family (student)-oriented educational opera adapted and translated into Korean from Domenico Cimarosa’s Il Maestro di Cappella. The city has directly planned and produced the piece, which will premiere in Korea.

The work allows audiences to experience the sound of the Busan Concert Hall’s prized pipe organ, enjoy music featured in school textbooks, and explore all the instruments of the orchestra in an engaging way. During production, additional pieces connected to elementary and middle school curricula—such as “Can-Can,” “The Queen of the Night Aria,” and “Una Furtiva Lagrima”—were incorporated. The lyrics were translated from Italian into Korean to suit the perspectives of student and family audiences.

As in the previous year, the production will be conducted by Busan-born Jeong Chan-min (Assistant Conductor of Theater Aachen, Germany) and directed by Lee Hoe-soo (Adjunct Professor, Kookmin University). The cast will feature baritone Kim Jong-pyo, sopranos Kwon Sora and Kang Joo-hee, tenor Seok Jeong-yeop, and organist Choi Seo-young.

Three weekday performances (September 24–26) will be for student groups, while the two weekend performances (September 27 at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.) will be open to family audiences. Tickets will go on sale at 2:00 p.m. on August 13 through the Busan Concert Hall website, NOL Interpark, YES24, and Ticketlink.

In addition to the HELLO Opera series, Classical Busan plans to produce and present various educational content such as HELLO Classic, HELLO Ballet, and HELLO Organ.
