10 Teams (20 Artists) Selected for the 2nd Emerging Artists Art Show, “Busan Connected”!

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it has selected 10 final teams (20 artists) for the Emerging Artists Art Show, “Busan Connected,” held under the theme “Next Together.”

This year’s contest focused on discovering local artists by requiring that at least one member of each two-person team be either born in, currently residing in, or originally from Busan. As a result, artists with Busan connections, currently active in various regions, were selected.

The 10 final selected teams are:

• ●“Fragments and Thread” (Kim Bo-gyeong, Heebak)

• ●“Yoon and Baek” (Yoon Ye-ji, Baek Seung-hwan)

• ●“youyu” (Im Yu-jin, Park Yu-ki)

• ●“LUMINEA” (Kim Yu-young, Kim Yong-won)

• ●“Archivist” (Sanghwan, Cho Ha-eun)

• ●“HH” (Park Hyun-seong, Hwang Hyun-deok)

• ●“Woori Doori” (Park Woo-soo-ri, Kim Chae-ri)

• ●“Haesangdan (解像團)” (Shi Nan-seul, Ahn Jae-young)

• ●“Voice from the Periphery” (Bang Sang-hwan, Byun Hyun-woo)

• ●“Parallel-Crossfade” (Park Young-hwan, Kim Se-jin)

The 10 selected teams (20 artists) will hold an exhibition titled “Busan Connected” at Geumgo Art Museum inside the Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum from September 9 to October 10.

During the exhibition period, one final team will be selected through on-site evaluation to receive an opportunity to showcase their work in a solo booth at the 2026 The Preview Art Fair special exhibition, organized by Art Meets Life.

Meanwhile, the second round of this contest, aimed at fostering next-generation artists and supporting their new plans and exhibitions, was held from June 27 to July 16. A total of 80 teams (160 applicants) applied, resulting in a competitive 8:1 ratio.

The contest covered all fields of contemporary art, including ▲Painting ▲Sculpture ▲Photography ▲Installation ▲Media ▲Crafts. A total of 66 teams (132 artists) who met the qualifications were evaluated.

In the first round, a committee reviewed basic documents and portfolios, selecting 40 teams. In the second round, four experts from different sectors of the art world were invited to assess portfolios (in-depth) and exhibition proposals.

The judges, as in the previous year, focused on evaluating thematic relevance, exhibition composition, artwork completeness, the applicants’ planning capabilities, and the feasibility and thoroughness of the proposal. They also considered each work’s scalability, originality, marketability, and potential for success in the art market.

In addition, during this year’s Emerging Artists Art Show, a variety of programs will be offered through the 2025 Korea Art Festival’s planning program “Art Journey (Art Signal, Busan),” including gallery tours, atelier tours, and art talks.

Centered around nine exhibition venues* in Busan, the following events are scheduled:

• ●▲Busan VIP Gallery Tour (Sept. 13–14)

• ●▲Art & Ideas (Sept. 19–21)

• ●▲Mentoring Tour (Sept. 27)

These will provide opportunities to experience Busan’s vibrant art scene.

*The 9 venues include: Museum of Contemporary Art Busan, Geumgo Art Museum, artist studios of Jo Eun-pil, Lee Mi-joo, and Jeong Yoon-joo, Busan International Video Art Festival, Kukje Gallery Busan, F1963, and Hyundai Motorstudio Busan.
