Busan Metropolitan City Announces Interim Results of Housing Support for Residents in High-Risk Apartment Buildings

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced the current status of relocation and rental housing support for residents in Grade E apartment buildings, following the agreement signed on April 15 with the districts of Jung-gu and Yeongdo-gu, Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH), and Busan Housing Corporation.

The agreement aims to provide effective residential support, including rental housing supply, unconditional initial occupancy, and disaster management fund assistance, to residents of Grade E buildings deemed to pose a high disaster risk due to severe structural defects.

Following the agreement, within approximately four months, 15 out of 30 households residing in Grade E apartments in Yeongdo-gu (26 households) and Grade D apartments in Seo-gu (4 households) have decided to relocate and received support. The swift progress is expected to positively influence the relocation of the remaining households.

◯ By household: Of the 15 relocated households, 11 applied for rental housing through Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH), 2 through Busan Housing Corporation, and the remaining 2 households received moving cost support.

• ●In Jung-gu, 10 of 21 households from Cheongpungjang and Sohwajang Apartments have relocated or applied for rental housing.

• ●In Yeongdo-gu, 1 of 5 households from Yeongseon Apartment and Kosin Housing has completed relocation or applied for rental housing.

• ●Additionally, all 4 households from Gilsan Villa in Seo-gu, a Grade D building determined to pose serious residential hazards, have also completed relocation or applied for rental housing.

Busan Metropolitan City is offering the following support measures to facilitate relocation:

• ●Rental housing supply

• ●Unconditional initial occupancy for up to 2 years, even for property owners

• ●Financial assistance such as deposit loans and moving cost support, in collaboration with Jung-gu, Yeongdo-gu, and Seo-gu

The city and its partner agencies will continue to provide tailored support and actively encourage the remaining 15 households to relocate promptly and safely.

Previously, on April 15, Busan Metropolitan City, along with Jung-gu, Yeongdo-gu, LH, and Busan Housing Corporation, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at supporting residents of Grade E apartments through rental housing supply, unconditional initial occupancy, and disaster management fund assistance.

The city plans to use this agreement and its interim results as a foundation to ensure no citizen remains in the blind spot of safety, and will continue efforts to eliminate the risks posed by hazardous living conditions.

Kim Ki-hwan, Director General of the Citizens’ Safety Office, stated,
“We will spare no administrative effort to help residents move to safe housing as quickly as possible,”
and added,
“Based on this agreement, we will further strengthen our commitment to ensuring citizens’ safety.”
