Busan Metropolitan City Supports 10 Food Service Businesses Through ‘On-Site SME Troubleshooter’ Project

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it has selected 10 food service businesses for this year’s “On-Site SME Troubleshooter Support Project” and will provide tailored consultations and improvement assistance to help them grow.

This initiative is part of the “On-Site SME Troubleshooter Support Project” launched in 2020, which offers personalized consulting and worksite improvement support to small business owners experiencing a downturn despite their competitive potential.

Starting in June, the city conducted a two-stage selection process—document screening followed by on-site evaluation—and ultimately selected 10 food service businesses that are currently facing stagnation.

According to National Tax Service statistics, the food service industry ranks first among the top 100 everyday service sectors by number of establishments. Due to low startup capital requirements, it is an industry where frequent openings and closures occur, reflecting the challenges of the frontlines of everyday life.

The final selected businesses are:

The selected businesses demonstrate strong potential for growth with competitive offerings such as:

• ●Special sauce pork ribs with 30 years of tradition

• ●Unique flavor beef tartare wraps

• ●Traditional Korean ingredient-based desserts

• ●Elegant Korean set meals served for only three hours a day

• ●Handcrafted beer brewed by a German owner

Busan Metropolitan City will assign expert consultants (by specialty) to visit each business, diagnose issues, and propose practical solutions.

Each selected business will also receive up to KRW 9 million in support for facility and management improvements. In addition, the city will help promote these businesses by producing content based on the consultation process and business outcomes.

Kim Bong-chul, Assistant Mayor of Digital Economy Office, stated, “Amid high interest rates, rising prices, and economic downturn, many food service small businesses are struggling with declining sales. We expect this project will help them become leading local gourmet destinations and revitalize their surrounding commercial districts.”

He added, “Going forward, Busan Metropolitan City will continue to spare no effort in supporting outstanding small businesses across various sectors so that they may achieve sustainable growth.”
