Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum to Host “Liberation Day Citizen Participation Program”

The Busan Modern and Contemporary History Museum (Director Kim Gi-yong) announced that it will host a citizen participation program titled “Waving the Taegeukgi” to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation Day.

The event will take place on August 15 (Thu), from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the main building of the museum and is designed to help citizens remember the significance of liberation and the spirit of 80 years ago.

Main Programs:

1. Exhibition Tour Program

“80 GO! Back in Time with Boogi”

This participatory exhibition tour features Boogi, Busan’s civic character, as a tour guide, leading visitors through the permanent exhibition hall.

The program introduces the history of Busan from the Japanese occupation to liberation, including the origin of the name “Gwangbok-dong.”

It is a friendly, interactive program tailored for children and family visitors, helping them naturally understand the historical flow through engaging storytelling and displays.

2. Hands-On Activity Program

“Find the Song of August 15!”

Participants will listen to the song “August 15,” composed by Geum Soo-hyun with lyrics by Yoon Il-goo, created to commemorate liberation.

As they listen to the music played throughout the exhibition hall, they will fill in missing lyrics on an activity sheet, deepening their appreciation of Liberation Day.

This immersive experience enables participants to feel the emotional significance of the day through music and active engagement.

Additionally, the museum will exhibit a large Taegeukgi on its exterior wall throughout August, made from 150 Taegeukgi drawings created by children who participated in the “Respond to March 1st, Draw the Taegeukgi!” event held earlier this year and in the Traveling Museum Program conducted in collaboration with Busan elementary schools.
