‘Ochoryang Garden’ and ‘Everyone’s Garden’ Reborn as Busan’s New Private Gardens in the City Center

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it has officially registered the outdoor garden of Ochoryang (hereinafter “Ochoryang Garden”) and the outdoor landscaped area within the main store of Momos Coffee in Bugok-dong, Geumjeong-gu (hereinafter “Everyone’s Garden”) as private gardens.

Private gardens refer to green spaces created and operated by corporations, organizations, or individuals. This system aims to expand urban green areas and promote garden culture. In December 2024, the F1963 Garden—a multi-cultural complex—was registered as the first private garden in Busan.

With the new registrations, Ochoryang Garden and Everyone’s Garden have become the second and third private gardens in the city.

Located in Choryang-dong, Dong-gu, "Ochoryang Garden" is a garden that harmonizes with a 100-year-old colonial-style house and has been reborn as a healing space in the city center.

“Ochoryang” is a multi-cultural complex centered around a 100-year-old wooden house built during the Japanese colonial period. The name “Ochoryang” combines the exclamation “Oh!” with “Choryang (草粱),” meaning grassy ridge. The garden, alongside its serene ambiance, hosts a variety of cultural programs including exhibitions, concerts, and humanities lectures, offering unique experiences for citizens.

In particular, the naturally arranged trees and refined landscaping design make the garden a noteworthy healing spot where visitors can feel the charm of all four seasons in the heart of the city.

A representative from Ochoryang commented, “We hope visitors will experience the garden of time that can only be felt at Ochoryang—a space where a century of history, art, and daily life coexist.”

Located at the main store of Momos Coffee in Bugok-dong, Geumjeong-gu, “Everyone’s Garden” was created with the intention that everyone deserves to feel special. It is a space where coffee culture and gardens harmonize.

Unlike conventional approaches where landscaping is added after construction, “Everyone’s Garden” is characterized by having the garden placed at the center of the space, realizing a harmonious balance between architecture and landscaping.

The space features two themed gardens (a bamboo garden and Everyone’s Garden), along with a café and rest facilities, enabling residents and visitors to enjoy nature and culture together. It has become a unique place where people can enjoy a leisurely stroll through the garden with a cup of coffee and find relaxation and peace in their daily lives.

The CEO of Momos Coffee stated, “Everyone’s Garden is a small urban park where community, culture, and nature meet through the medium of coffee. We hope residents and visitors alike will enjoy both culture and relaxation within the garden.”

Ahn Cheol-su, Director General of the Green City Bureau, stated, “Private gardens not only serve as green spaces within the city but also offer areas where citizens can experience the coexistence of nature and culture,” adding, “We will continue to provide administrative support so that more garden spaces can be created through private participation.”
