Busan Selects Six New “Busan Anchor Companies” to Lead the Revival of the Local Manufacturing Sector

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it has selected six new companies for 2025 under the “Busan Anchor Company Fostering Support Project,” aimed at revitalizing and innovating the local manufacturing sector.

○ The “Busan Anchor Company Fostering Support Project” began in 2024 with the selection of three companies. From 2025, the project has been expanded in scale and content and is now being implemented in full.

○ At this year’s certificate award ceremony, the newly selected six companies will receive certificates and plaques. Additionally, plaques will be awarded to the three companies selected last year to increase awareness of the program and bolster the companies’ external credibility.

○ Partners supporting leading anchor companies—including local businesses, affiliated organizations, associations, and universities—will also participate to demonstrate continued support and engagement.

To enhance the selection process for this year’s supported companies, Busan Metropolitan City introduced AI-based evaluation methods alongside existing assessment criteria and conducted a highly competitive audition-style pitch evaluation to select the final six companies.

○ The AI evaluation system used was “BASA (Busan AI Screening Assistant),” developed with the support of Korea Credit Guarantee Fund and Korea Technology Finance Corporation. In addition, an audition-style pitch evaluation was introduced for the first time, where each company’s strengths and growth strategies were assessed by a panel of experts and citizen representatives.

○ “Busan Anchor Companies” are core enterprises within the industrial ecosystem that possess high technological competitiveness and industrial connectivity. These companies are recognized not merely for their size, but for their impactful roles—such as collaborating with smaller subcontractors, creating local jobs, disseminating advanced technologies, and expanding globally.

○ In 2024, three companies were selected: Hwashin Bolt Industry Co., Ltd.; Jeil Electric Co., Ltd.; and Unitecno Co., Ltd.

Selected companies will receive intensive support ranging from KRW 300 million to KRW 500 million over a three-year certification period.
○ Key areas of support include:
 ▲ In-depth business analysis and consulting
 ▲ Technology development
 ▲ Patent and certification support
 ▲ Assistance for overseas expansion
 ▲ Comprehensive support across both R&D and non-R&D domains to enhance corporate value

○ The total project budget has been expanded from KRW 3 billion (2024–2026) to KRW 11.7 billion (2024–2029) to provide more systematic and sustained support to enterprises leading the region’s manufacturing sector.

Following the certificate award ceremony, the Manucorn Open Innovation Seminar will take place in collaboration with Synergy IB Investment.
○ Experts from both private and public sectors will share successful cases and strategies for collaboration between conglomerates, startups, and regional companies in the field of open innovation.

○ Going beyond information sharing, the seminar is expected to offer practical cooperation opportunities through AI-driven value creation, joint R&D, testbed linkages, seed investment connections, and global market expansion consulting.

○ Busan Metropolitan City plans to build a continued cooperation system with major innovation institutions and related organizations in the region, ensuring that public support and private collaboration align to generate meaningful synergies through open innovation.

The certificate award ceremony for the selected companies will be held at 10:00 a.m. today (July 24) in the ballroom of Signiel Busan.
○ The event will be attended by Mayor Park Heong-joon, representatives of anchor companies, officials from affiliated organizations and associations, and about 60 participants.
○ Mayor Park will personally present the certificates to the six selected companies and engage in open discussions with stakeholders.

Mayor Park is expected to state:
“Busan has great potential to become a global hub city and is one of the two major growth pillars of the Republic of Korea. For Korea to truly advance, the regions must become stronger—and for the regions to thrive, their industrial foundations must be solid. We will continue to create policy synergies that restore the vitality of local manufacturing, generate youth employment, advance industrial development, and promote balanced regional growth.”
