Eomgung Agricultural Wholesale Market Management Office Holds Watermelon Sharing Event

Busan Metropolitan City’s Eomgung Agricultural Wholesale Market Management Office (hereinafter referred to as “the Office”) announced that distribution workers in the wholesale market will donate 700 watermelons to help local residents enjoy a cool summer.

In celebration of the upcoming “Jungbok” (the second of Korea’s three hottest summer days), the Office will host the “2025 Cool Summer Watermelon Sharing Event” at 10:00 AM on July 24 (Thursday) in the 2nd floor conference room of the Office with participation from wholesale market distribution workers.

• ●Participants: Around 100 people (approx. 15 distribution workers, and members of Sasang and Saha-gu Saemaul Women’s Associations, Maria Nuns of Seo-gu, Sasang-gu local child welfare centers, etc.)

The event is hosted by the Office and supported through donations from distribution workers in the wholesale market, including participants from Nonghyup Busan Auction House, Busan Fruits & Vegetables Co., Hangdo Fruits & Vegetables Co., Pickled Vegetables Adjustment Cooperative, Seasoning Products Adjustment Cooperative, Direct Wholesale Market for Produce, and the General Food Wholesale Complex.

Since launching the first watermelon sharing initiative in 2016, distribution workers have continued this tradition for 10 consecutive years to express their appreciation to the local community.

This year’s event is expected to be attended by over 100 individuals including distribution worker representatives and local residents.

The 700 donated watermelons will be distributed to senior centers and child centers in the region through Sasang and Saha-gu Saemaul Women’s Associations, the Sasang-gu Child Center Association, and the Maria Nuns of Seo-gu, reaching a total of 360 locations.

Park Hyeong-yong, Director of the Eomgung Agricultural Wholesale Market Management Office, stated,
“Despite the recent extreme weather conditions and rising watermelon prices, I deeply appreciate the distribution workers for continuing this meaningful act of sharing.”
He added, “We will continue our efforts to supply safe, high-quality agricultural products to the public and actively promote produce-sharing initiatives for our marginalized and underserved neighbors.”
