Mayor Park Heong-joon Inspects Flooded Section of Sasang–Hadan Line… All-Out Efforts to Ensure Safety Amid Heavy Rainfall

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that at 2:30 p.m. today (July 17), Mayor Park visited the construction site of the Sasang–Hadan Line of the Busan Metro to conduct an intensive inspection of the area around Station 501, which experienced flooding due to torrential rain on July 13.

On July 13, as more than 190 millimeters (mm) of rainfall accumulated in the afternoon, stormwater entered through a material supply opening at the construction site, causing flooding of the platform at Station 501 and approximately 800 meters (m) of the mainline section.

On this day, Mayor Park, together with officials from the Busan Transportation Corporation, Sasang-gu Urban Construction Bureau, and related organizations, conducted a joint inspection of the construction site. The mayor reiterated the importance of thorough site safety management and the establishment of preventive measures to ensure no further damage occurs due to heavy rainfall.

The Sasang–Hadan Line of the Busan Metro began construction in 2017 and is scheduled for completion in 2026. With a total project cost of KRW 831.7 billion (KRW 459.4 billion in national funding and KRW 372.3 billion in city funding), this is a major municipal project aimed at improving public transportation services in western Busan.

Mayor Park stated, “We will ensure prompt and thorough follow-up actions for the flooded section,” and added, “With record-breaking rainfall forecast this summer, we will dedicate all efforts to meticulous on-site inspections and situation management to prevent human and material damage.”
