Busan Confirmed as Host of the “30th World Championship of Magic 2028”

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that at the General Assembly of the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques (FISM) held yesterday (July 15) in Turin, Italy, the city was officially selected as the host city for the 30th World Championship of Magic (FISM WCM 2028), the world’s largest magic event. This marks Busan’s second successful bid in 10 years since hosting the event in 2018.

At the General Assembly, presidents of 74 magic clubs from 52 countries participated in the vote. Korea received 235 out of 411 votes, defeating Canada’s Quebec, which garnered 176 votes.

This achievement reflects Busan’s continued efforts to enhance its status as the “City of Magic” on the global stage. The city identified several key strengths that contributed to its successful bid:
▲ an excellent international event management system jointly established by the city and the Busan International Magic Festival Organizing Committee,
▲ robust infrastructure including venues like BEXCO and the Busan Cinema Center with easy transportation access, and
▲ ongoing international networking through engagements such as inviting FISM’s executive board to Busan.

With this accomplishment, Busan is set to establish itself not just as the host city, but also as a global hub connecting the history and future of magic alongside FISM, the most respected organization in the magic world. This is expected to significantly elevate the international standing of Asia’s magic community and Korean culture and arts as a whole.

The “30th World Championship of Magic (FISM WCM 2028)” will be held from July 17 to 26, 2028, for a period of 10 days, across Busan with BEXCO as the main venue. Around 3,000 magicians and affiliated personnel are expected to stay in the city, generating substantial economic benefits for the local economy.

Various programs are planned, including:

▲ a special historical gala show
▲ beachside magic busking in Busan
▲ an international conference
▲ and interactive programs for citizens.

Mayor Park Heong-joon remarked, “This outcome is especially meaningful as it reflects the results of 20 years of successfully hosting the Busan International Magic Festival and our efforts to build a cultural city identity through magic. The global standing of Busan as the City of Magic and a global hub city will be elevated, the international competitiveness of the magic industry will be strengthened, and the local economy will be revitalized. We will provide our full support to ensure the success of the event.”
