Korean Red Cross Busan Branch Delivers Supplies to Disaster-Vulnerable Groups During Heatwave

□ Mayor Park Heong-joon of Busan Metropolitan City announced that a delivery ceremony for summer heatwave relief supplies for disaster-vulnerable groups would be held today (14th) at 10:30 a.m. in the International Protocol Room of City Hall, in collaboration with Chairman Seo Jeong-ui of the Korean Red Cross Busan Branch.

○ The ceremony will be attended by the city’s Director of Social Welfare Bureau and Park Sun-young, Secretary General of the Korean Red Cross Busan Branch.

□ On this day, the Korean Red Cross Busan Branch will donate 2,000 electric fans worth approximately 120 million KRW.
The beneficiaries include 2,000 households identified through applications submitted to local administrative welfare centers in 16 districts and counties, consisting of 1,700 vulnerable households and 300 households identified in cooperation with local children’s centers.

○ These supplies were prepared through the ‘Hope Sharing Donation Fund’, which gathers contributions from citizens of Busan committed to caring for their neighbors. Recognizing that extreme summer heat poses greater risks to socioeconomically vulnerable populations, the donation aims to help them endure the summer in a safer and healthier way.

○ The fans will be delivered in bulk to each administrative welfare center and to recipients’ homes on July 23.

□ The Korean Red Cross Busan Branch continues to support vulnerable communities through various initiatives, including seasonal supply drives for disaster-prone groups in both summer and winter, emergency aid through the ‘Hope Windmill Emergency Support Solution Committee’ for crisis households, and fundraising events such as the ‘Red Cross Sharing Bazaar’ to support grandparent-grandchild households.

□ Jeong Tae-gi, Director of the Social Welfare Bureau at Busan Metropolitan City, stated, “With the ongoing dry monsoon season and scorching heat, we must come together as a civil society to prepare for prolonged heatwaves,” adding, “We will do our utmost to protect vulnerable groups from the effects of extreme heat.”
