Busan City and ChildFund Korea Busan Office Provide Fire Safety Supplies to Vulnerable Children’s Households

The Busan Metropolitan City Government (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it is carrying out a fire safety supply support project for vulnerable children's households in collaboration with the ChildFund Korea Busan Regional Office (Director: Soo-kyung Lee).

This initiative will provide throwable fire extinguishers and high-capacity power strips to 235 households with vulnerable children—items that children can easily use themselves to help prevent fires in the home.

The project is aimed at preventing fire accidents during the summer due to the increased use of cooling appliances, and at enhancing children’s ability to respond in the early stages of a fire.

A total of KRW 23.5 million in funding for this project was secured through private donations from local businesses in Busan. If additional sponsorship funds are secured in the future, the city plans to expand the scope of beneficiaries.

Donations include:

• ●Korea Ocean Business Corporation (President: Byung-gil Ahn) – KRW 10 million

• ●Moonam Scholarship and Culture Foundation (Chairman: Hyuk-woon Kwon) – KRW 10 million

• ●Jokwang IOTECH Co., Ltd. (CEO: Min-kyu Hong) – KRW 3.5 million

Park Seol-yeon, Director General of the Women and Family Affairs Bureau, stated, “Due to recent record-breaking heatwaves caused by climate change, the use of cooling appliances is rapidly increasing, and so is the risk of related fires.” She added, “This support project was made possible thanks to the warm-hearted contributions of local businesses, and the city will continue to make active efforts to ensure the safety and healthy development of children.”

  Kit includes: a throwable fire extinguisher and a high-capacity power strip

🔹 Throwable Fire Extinguisher

• ●Traditional extinguishers often fail due to powder clumping or malfunction, and can be difficult for children or adolescents to operate.

• ●Throwable extinguishers are easy to use—simply throw them—and the fire-suppressing liquid creates a barrier that prevents re-ignition for a period, aiding evacuation.

🔹 High-Capacity Power Strip

• ●Designed to reduce the risk of fire due to electrical overload.

• ●Equipped with safety features that automatically shut off power during excessive current flow, preventing fire accidents.

Budget: KRW 23.5 million (donations)

• ●Unit cost: KRW 100,000 × 235 households = KRW 23,500,000
