Busan, a Model City of Sharing! Commendation Ceremony for Contributors to the Hope 2025 Fundraising Campaign Held

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that the "Hope 2025 Fundraising Campaign Contributor Commendation Ceremony" will be held today (July 8) at 3:30 p.m. in the grand auditorium of City Hall.

The event will be attended by award recipients, Mayor Park Heong-joon, Lee Soo-tae, President of the Busan Community Chest, Lee Jong-hwan, Vice Chairperson of the Busan City Council, Lee Kang-guk, Deputy Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, Kim Jin-hong, Mayor of Dong-gu District, Oh Eun-taek, Mayor of Nam-gu District, Yang Jae-saeng, Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and media executives—about 200 participants in total.

The ceremony will include a pre-event performance, the presentation of mayoral commendations, the presentation of commendations by the President of the Busan Community Chest, and the screening of a thank-you video.

This year’s commendation ceremony recognizes individuals and organizations that served as exemplary models in promoting a culture of sharing in 2024, including contributions to the “Hope 2025 Sharing Campaign.”

The awards include 18 commendations from the Mayor (6 public officials, 1 individual, and 11 organizations) and 38 from the President of the Busan Community Chest (6 district offices, 9 individuals, and 23 organizations).

Noteworthy awardees include:

• ●The head branch of “Gaemijip,” which has continuously donated white rice and funds for neighbors in need since the COVID-19 pandemic,

• ●“Shinangchon Consumer Cooperative,” which provided disaster relief donations and summer necessities for vulnerable groups,

• ●“Korea Ocean Business Corporation,” which has engaged in a range of social contribution activities such as regional cooperation, talent development, and environmental protection since its establishment in 2018.

Meanwhile, the "Hope 2025 Sharing Campaign" was a 62-day fundraising campaign conducted from December 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025. It raised KRW 14.16 billion against a target of KRW 10.86 billion, achieving the highest result since the campaign’s inception in 1999, and ranked second nationwide in terms of achievement rate.

Mayor Park Heong-joon is expected to state, “Busan is a model city of sharing and a warm community. The generous acts of those present here today have greatly contributed to opening this year as a hopeful one,” and added, “Our city will continue in that spirit to become a ‘city people wish to live in again if born’ and a ‘Global Hub City, Busan.’”
