Busan Metropolitan City to Conduct the 2024 Busan Environmental Industry Survey

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will conduct the “2024 Busan Environmental Industry Survey” until July 28.

This survey is conducted to assess the scale and economic activity characteristics of the environmental industry, a strategic sector for the city, and to utilize the findings as foundational data for policy formulation, evaluation, analysis, and the acquisition of national funds.

The survey was first conducted as a national statistical survey in 2021 and is now in its fifth iteration.

The survey targets all businesses engaged in environmental industry activities within the city as of December 31, 2024, or those with at least one employee involved in such activities. Approximately 9,000 businesses fall under this scope.
A total of 44 items will be surveyed, including company name, number of employees, sales and export figures, investment amount, and policy demand. The results are scheduled to be published in December this year.
The collected information will be used solely for statistical purposes and will be strictly protected in accordance with Article 33 of the Statistics Act (Protection of Secrets).

The survey will be conducted through face-to-face visits by 183 statistical surveyors hired by the city. Businesses that prefer not to participate in person may respond via internet survey*, email, fax, or phone.
*Participation in the internet survey is available at www.narastat.kr/ibusaneco. Survey IDs will be provided directly by the surveyors.

Jung Na-young, Director General of the Future Technology Strategy Bureau of the city, stated, “The environmental industry survey is a key statistical tool that helps understand the structure and management conditions of the environmental industry, and is essential for developing and evaluating environmental and technology policies in Busan.” She also requested active cooperation and accurate responses from the businesses selected for the survey to ensure the reliability of the statistics.

Meanwhile, the results of last year’s “2023 Busan Environmental Industry Survey” conducted in July 2024 showed that the environmental industry in Busan comprised 7,809 businesses, 35,392 employees, KRW 9.3522 trillion in sales, and KRW 1.5202 trillion in exports.

Detailed results, including investment amounts, permit and registration status, technology possession, business operation challenges, and satisfaction with support policies, are available through the Big Data Wave platform (data.busan.go.kr).
