Busan Metropolitan City Discusses Follow-up Measures for Gijang Apartment Fire – On-site Visit and Joint Countermeasure Meeting Held with Director General of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters –

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that today (July 4), it conducted a joint on-site inspection and countermeasure meeting with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) in response to the apartment fire incident that occurred in Gijang-gun on July 2.

At around 9:45 a.m., the Director General of the MOIS Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters visited the site of the incident to inspect the fire’s point of origin and its surroundings. During the visit, he was briefed on the response measures and developments to date by officials including the Director General of the City’s Office of Citizens Safety, the Gijang County Office, the Gijang Fire Station, and the National Forensic Service.

Following this, at 11:00 a.m., a countermeasure meeting to prevent recurrence was held in the conference room of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters at City Hall. The meeting was attended by officials from central government agencies including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the National Fire Agency, as well as representatives from Busan Metropolitan City and Gijang-gun. The participants analyzed the cause of the accident and discussed response strategies to prevent similar incidents and the expansion of emergency care services.

Busan Metropolitan City will continue to work closely with the central government to eliminate blind spots in disaster safety and establish practical preventive measures to create a safe urban environment that citizens can truly feel secure in.
