Busan-Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Discussion Forum for Original Downtown Residents Successfully Held

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) and the Busan-Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Public Consensus Committee (Co-Chairs Jeon Ho-hwan and Kwon Soon-ki; hereinafter referred to as the Committee) announced that the first "Busan-Gyeongnam Administrative Integration Discussion Forum for Citizens (Original Downtown Area)" held yesterday (July 1) at the Grand Ballroom of Asti Hotel Busan concluded successfully.

This forum began with a keynote presentation by Committee Spokesperson Park Jae-yul titled "Progress and Direction of the Busan-Gyeongnam Administrative Integration" followed by a designated panel discussion.

In the keynote presentation, the speaker explained the progress made so far in pursuing the Busan-Gyeongnam administrative integration and its future direction.

In addition, the preliminary draft of the Basic Concept for the Busan-Gyeongnam Administrative Integration was presented to residents, introducing the anticipated benefits and envisioned future that the integration would bring.

For the panel discussion, former President of Tongmyong University and Co-Chair Jeon Ho-hwan served as the moderator. Panelists included City Council Member Lee Jun-ho, Oh Moon-beom (Secretary-General of Busan YMCA), Professor Yoon Eun-gi (Dong-A University), and Professor Ha Hye-soo (Kyungpook National University).

They exchanged views on the necessity and expected outcomes of the integration, opinions on the basic concept draft, and supplementary measures for the administrative integration plan. This forum served as a venue for communication where opinions and proposals from academia, experts, civil society, and local councils were heard and deliberated upon.

Including this original downtown forum, a total of eight citizen forums will be held in Busan and Gyeongnam by the end of July. The second citizen forum in Busan is scheduled to take place at 14:00 on July 9 in the main conference room (2F) of the Busan City Council, targeting the central region (Busanjin-gu, Dongnae-gu, Geumjeong-gu, and Yeonje-gu).

Co-Chair Jeon Ho-hwan stated, “The Committee places top priority on building public consensus in the pursuit of the Busan-Gyeongnam administrative integration,” and added, “This forum was a meaningful occasion to hear and share the voices of residents in the original downtown area. I hope that many people will also attend the upcoming Central Region forum on July 9 to share their thoughts in this valuable dialogue.”
