Busan Autonomous Police Committee Conducts Joint Patrols and Anti-Drug Campaigns with Companion Dog Patrol Teams

The Busan Metropolitan City Autonomous Police Committee (Chairperson: Kim Cheol-joon, hereinafter referred to as “the Committee”) announced that it will conduct a “Joint Patrol with Companion Dog Patrol Teams and Anti-Drug Campaign” in eight key residential areas of the city through June 29.

Event Overview

• ●Title: Joint Patrol with Companion Dog Patrol Teams and Anti-Drug Campaign

• ●Date: June 25 (Wed) – June 29 (Sun), 18:30–21:00 (approximately one hour per region)

• ●Location: Eight districts in Busan (Saha-gu, Dongnae-gu, Geumjeong-gu, Busanjin-gu, Yeonje-gu, Nam-gu, Suyeong-gu, and Haeundae-gu)

• ●Participants: Over 150 people including companion dog patrol teams, citizens, and police officers

• ●Main Activities: Citizen-participatory patrols with companion dog patrol teams, anti-drug promotional campaign, and distribution of awareness materials

This initiative is a community-oriented policing activity involving patrols by citizens, companion dog patrol teams, and police officers, along with a campaign commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to raise public awareness about the dangers of drug use. It is carried out through public-private-police collaboration.

This is the second time the citizen-participatory joint patrol and campaign is being held following last year’s event. It carries great significance as it reflects the continued voluntary interest and participation of citizens in community safety.

Participants were recruited in advance by region through the 1365 Volunteer Portal (www.1365.go.kr), and volunteer hours are officially recognized upon completion of the activities.

On the first day of the campaign, June 25, joint patrols were conducted around Eden Park and the nearby commercial and residential zones near Hadan Station in Saha-gu, during which anti-drug awareness materials were distributed to citizens.

The Committee plans to continue focused patrols through June 29 in major residential areas, including:

• ●Nollimaru near the Busan Student Arts and Culture Center (Busanjin-gu)

Chairperson Kim Cheol-joon of the Busan Autonomous Police Committee stated,

“The Companion Dog Patrol Team serves as a real-life safety partner that protects neighborhoods alongside citizens,” and added,
“We will continue to expand patrol activities and campaigns involving local residents, police, and companion dog patrol teams to foster a culture of public safety within the community.”
