Busan Holds Commemorative Ceremony for the 75th Anniversary of the Korean War

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host the 75th Anniversary Commemorative Ceremony of the Korean War on June 25 at 11:00 AM at the Grand Auditorium of City Hall under the theme:
“Korea, a Nation the Heroes Defended and We Will Continue.”

○ The ceremony is hosted by the city to honor the sacrifices and dedication of Korean War veterans and to reflect on the historical lessons of the Korean War.

○ Attendees include Mayor Park Heong-joon, war veterans and their families, military commanders, heads of veterans’ organizations, and around 700 participants.

○ The ceremony will proceed in the following order:
 – Opening remarks,
 – National ceremony,
 – War progress report,
 – Commendation of veterans,
 – Mayor’s commemorative address,
 – Tribute performance,
 – Singing of the Korean War song,
 – Three cheers for the nation,
 – Closing remarks

At the entrance to the venue, a photo zone will be set up under the event theme, allowing participants to commemorate the ceremony.

○ Notably, 120 Korean War veterans and 100 active-duty military members from the Army, Navy, and Air Force will be in attendance.
 A tribute performance by the Busan City Boys and Girls Choir will further highlight the significance of younger generations inheriting the nation defended by the veterans.

○ Additionally, a veteran appreciation event will be held to express gratitude and respect for the noble sacrifice of the Korean War veterans.
 120 veterans, along with the President of the Busan Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association, will attend.
 A consolatory performance by the “Shooting Star” Children’s Performance Group will also be presented.

Mayor Park Heong-joon will state in his commemorative speech:

“During the war, Busan served as the provisional capital and the final stronghold of the Republic of Korea, preserving freedom and democracy. Busan also led the country’s economic development and industrialization.
The best way to repay the veterans for their noble sacrifice is to transform Busan into a global hub city, making Korea a stronger and more prosperous nation.
Just as the miracle of post-war Korea began in Busan, the next chapter of that miracle will also begin here.”
