Busan City Selected for Ministry of Employment and Labor’s “Employment Slowdown Response Support Project” – Supports Job Stability in Auto Parts Sector

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it has been selected for the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s additional round of the “Employment Slowdown Response Support Project”, securing a total of 1.6 billion KRW in national funding.

This project was launched as a one-time initiative to support employment stability in industries experiencing slowdowns due to internal and external economic changes. Busan City is focusing its efforts on the auto parts sector, which has been struggling with challenges such as newly imposed tariffs.

As a result of being selected, the city will implement the “Auto Parts Industry Job Retention Support Package”, investing 1.78 billion KRW (1.6 billion from national funds and 178 million from the city budget) to support 1,345 employees in the auto parts sector by providing retention incentives and workplace environment improvement subsidies.

Main Components of the Support Program

• 1.Retention Incentives for Employees

• ○Eligible workers must be currently employed in auto parts companies as of May 1, 2025, with at least 3 months to under 5 years of service.

• ○Each eligible employee will receive a 1 million KRW retention incentive.

• 2.Cheer-Up! Package for Employers

• ○Auto parts companies will receive up to 200,000 KRW per eligible employee to improve working conditions (e.g., vacation support, health checkups, etc.).

Background and Broader Efforts

Busan City previously announced its “Busan Auto Industry Crisis Response Strategy” during the 51st Emergency Economic Response Meeting in April. The strategy aims to stabilize the management of local auto-related businesses and foster the future mobility industry ecosystem.
