Busan City Launches Drug Abuse Prevention Week – Strengthening Prevention Focused on Youth

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will observe Drug Abuse Prevention Week from June 23 to June 29, with a series of events aimed at raising awareness of the serious issues of drug abuse.

The week-long campaign is held in observance of World Drug Prevention Day on June 26 and includes several collaborative initiatives with district health centers, the Busan Drug Prevention Movement, and the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education. The activities will include public campaigns, academic symposiums, and a drug abuse awareness contest.

On June 26, a joint campaign for drug abuse prevention will be launched at Centum City Subway Station at 3:00 PM. This campaign will be organized with the help of public health organizations, the Busan Drug Prevention Movement, and other partners, to distribute information about drug abuse prevention, as well as provide resources for addiction recovery programs.

Event Schedule and Details

• ●June 27, 2025 (Friday) - 2:00 PM
  Symposium on "Hidden Temptations of Drugs for Youth and Parental Response Strategies"
  Hosted at Busan Education Research Information Center, the symposium will discuss:

• ○How adults can support youth who are vulnerable to addiction

• ○The role of parents in drug abuse prevention

• ○Presentations by experts, including Professor Jang Ok-jin (Haeundae Baek Hospital) and Police Officer Park Seong-chan (Busan Police Agency).

Drug Abuse Awareness Contest

The 9th Annual Drug Abuse Awareness Contest will be held, with submissions accepted from May 12 to July 31, 2025. The contest is open to all citizens of Busan, with categories including:

• ●Posters

• ●Slogans (8-page sketchbook size, youth only)

• ●Printed advertisements (A4 size), UCC, and other free formats
  Submissions can be sent by email to busandf@hanmail.net or postal mail to Dong-gu Central Daero 272, 4th Floor.

Awards will be presented in the following categories:

• ●Grand Prize: One for the general public and one for youth, each with a 300,000 KRW prize.

Additional Information

The campaign will feature the use of display screens on the new subway trains, where public service announcements about the dangers of drug abuse and the available addiction recovery programs will be shown year-round.

Seo Ra-yeon, Director of the City Health Bureau, emphasized:

“Drug abuse is no longer someone else's problem; it is silently approaching our children and citizens. Through this week of awareness, we aim to highlight the dangers of drug use and work together with the community to create a healthy Busan free from drugs.”
