The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that the “45th Busan Mayor’s Senior Sports Festival” will be held today (June 20) at 10:00 AM at the Indoor Gymnasium of Busan Asiad Main Stadium.

○ The Senior Sports Festival, hosted by the City and organized by the Korean Senior Citizens Association Busan Branch, is a sports event where local seniors gather to engage in a variety of sports activities that promote health and fellowship.

<Overview of the 45th Busan Mayor’s Senior Sports Festival>

• ●Date & Time: Friday, June 20, 2025, 10:00–17:00

• ●Venue: Indoor Gymnasium, Busan Asiad Main Stadium

• ●Scale: Over 3,500 participants including the Mayor, Vice Chair of the City Council, Superintendent of Education, district mayors, and senior citizens

• ●Host/Organizer: Busan Metropolitan City / Korean Senior Citizens Association Busan Branch

Today’s event will bring together Mayor Park Heong-joon, Moon Woo-taek (Chairman of the Busan Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association), and athletes and supporters from 16 district branches for a full day of seven sporting competitions.

○ The event will proceed in the following order: ▲Pre-event performance ▲Opening ceremony ▲Sporting events by category ▲Closing ceremony

The sporting events include:

• ●Individual Sports (3): Janggi (Korean chess), Baduk (Go), Hangu (traditional target shooting)

• ●Team Sports (4): Giant ball rolling, mini basketball, ring toss, word-card matching

○ The branch with the highest overall score combining both team and individual events will receive the Busan Mayor’s Trophy for the 45th Senior Sports Festival. Winners of each individual event will qualify to represent Busan in the National Senior Health Festival to be held in November.

Mayor Park stated, “Sports for seniors are the most powerful tool to create warm relationships and bring vitality to everyday life. Today’s event reaffirms the importance and presence of our seniors as companions who help lead Busan forward.” He added, “We will continue to develop and support a variety of policies to promote senior sports so that seniors can enjoy a more active and joyful daily life.”
