Busan Hosts Events to Promote Digital Well-being for Citizens in Celebration of “Information Culture Month”

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that, in celebration of “Information Culture Month,” it will host a series of public lectures, campaigns, and digital experience events on June 26 at 2:00 PM in the City Hall Auditorium to promote and spread a sound information culture.

○ “Information Culture Month” is a nationwide campaign organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT every June since 1988, aimed at encouraging public participation in the development of the information society and fostering a responsible and healthy digital culture.

This event is designed to allow all citizens to benefit from AI and digital technologies while promoting a digital society that respects human dignity and values. It also aims to raise awareness among Busan citizens about the information society and spread a sound information culture by enhancing their digital capabilities.

The main public lecture, titled “A New Daily Life with Artificial Intelligence (AI),” will be delivered by Professor Kim Kyung-min of the Software Convergence Education Institute at Pusan National University, a university specializing in software.

○ The lecture will broadly cover topics ranging from basic understanding of the increasingly popular Generative AI to practical tips on using AI more effectively in daily life.

○ Tailored for the general public, the lecture will be engaging and easy to follow, aimed at helping citizens become more familiar with AI and fostering intergenerational empathy and interest.

From noon on the same day, various digital experience programs and events will also be held in the lobby in front of the auditorium. Participating organizations such as Digital Learning Centers, Busan Smart Rest Center, and the Busan Media Center will offer hands-on activities including digital device usage and digital literacy experiences.

The event is open to all citizens without the need for prior registration, and small gifts will be provided to those who register in advance.

Meanwhile, the City plans to continue operating information culture promotion programs to realize a digitally inclusive society where people of all generations and groups can come together.

Cho Young-tae, Director General of Busan’s Administration and Autonomy Bureau, stated,
“As AI and digital technologies rapidly evolve, digital literacy and sensitivity among citizens are more important than ever.”
He added, “We hope this event helps people feel confident in using technology. Moving forward, the City will focus on creating an environment where all citizens can make smart and easy use of technology amid the transition to the AI era.”
