The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold the 2025 Blood Donor Day Commemorative Ceremony at 10:30 AM today (June 13) in the Grand Conference Room at City Hall.

Blood Donor Day, designated as June 14 each year, was established through an amendment to the Blood Management Act in December 2021 to raise awareness of blood donation and honor donors.

Today’s event will be attended by around 100 participants, including officials from Busan City, the City Council, the Korean Red Cross Blood Center, affiliated agencies, and local citizens.

The program includes a commemorative performance, awards ceremony, and speeches.

Awards will be presented to 16 blood donation merit recipients, including organizations and individuals who contributed to promoting blood donation culture in the community, and those who donated blood over 100 times.

Recipients will be honored with commendations from the Minister of Health and Welfare, Mayor of Busan, and Korean Red Cross.

Also, from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, the 2nd Employee Blood Donation Day will be held along the road between City Hall and the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency.

Three mobile blood donation buses will be used to accommodate participants from Busan City Hall, City Council, and Police Agency staff, as well as interested citizens.

On June 18, the 2025 First Half Blood Donation Promotion Council will convene in the 3rd Floor Meeting Room at City Hall.

This council consists of 10 institutions, including the City, Busan Police Agency, and Busan Transportation Corporation.

Held semi-annually, the council shares strategies and collaborates on plans to enhance blood donation in the local community.

Lee Sora, Director-General of the Citizens’ Health Bureau, stated:
“With extreme heat expected this summer, blood supply may become more challenging, making civic participation in blood donation even more crucial.

We will do our utmost to enhance recognition and support for blood donors.”
