A Ground Engineering Encyclopedia Worth Knowing – Busan to Host “AlSseulJiJap Season 1” Technical Lecture

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold a technical lecture titled “AlSseulJiJap (A Ground Engineering Encyclopedia Worth Knowing) Season 1” today (12th) at 1:00 p.m. in the International Conference Room on the 12th floor of City Hall.

○ Hosted by the city and jointly organized by the Southeast Branch of the Korean Geotechnical Society, the Yeongnam Branch of the Korean Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineers, and the Yeongnam Branch of the Korea Underground Safety Association.

○ The event will be attended by over 200 experts, public officials, and stakeholders from the construction sectors in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam.

During the “AlSseulJiJap” session, field experts will present engaging information on the geological and topographical formation of the Busan region and the characteristics of key excavation equipment used in the field, offering accessible insights to entry-level technicians.

○ Sessions will include “Why Does Busan's Ground Look Like This?” and “How Do We Dig Busan's Ground?” providing foundational geotechnical knowledge about the region.

In addition, the technical lectures will cover a wide range of geotechnical topics followed by discussions on the presentations, creating a valuable opportunity to share knowledge on construction technology and safety management.

○ Topics include:
▲ Key observations and improvement measures from special site inspections
▲ Investigations into the safety management of steep slopes
▲ Recent trends in Deep Cement Mixing (DCM) techniques
▲ Ground subsidence management methods based on cutoff wall properties

Meanwhile, since 2012, the Southeast Branch of the Korean Geotechnical Society (Chair: Kim Yoon-tae) has hosted technical presentations on geotechnical technologies to ensure safe construction and maintenance of ground-related structures in the southeastern region.

Min Soon-gi, Director-General of the Urban Spatial Planning Bureau, stated,
“In cities like Busan, where geological conditions are diverse, systematic understanding of the ground is essential for safe construction and citizen safety,” and added,
“We hope this lecture provides a meaningful venue for broad discussions on ground understanding and the advancement of the construction industry in our region.”
