The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced it will host a “Special Discount Market for Agricultural, Livestock, and Fishery Products” on June 12 (Thu) from 09:00 to 17:00 at City Hall Plaza to stabilize household food prices and support public livelihood.

Although the overall consumer price index has stabilized around the 2% range, the prices of frequently consumed agricultural, livestock, and fishery products remain high, contributing to a persistently burdensome cost of living for many citizens.

In response, the city is holding this special market to ease grocery expenses for citizens and to support local farmers struggling with supply disruptions due to abnormal climate conditions.

Products will be offered at 15% to 30% off regular retail prices. A wide variety of fresh goods from Busan and nearby regions, such as Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk, will be directly sourced and sold.

Approximately 40 booths will be installed to offer discounted sales on fresh produce, meat, fish, processed goods, eggs, and more.

Participants include:

• ●Regional governments (e.g., Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk)

• ●Agricultural and fishery cooperatives (e.g., Nonghyup, Busan Livestock Cooperative)

• ●Local seafood companies

• ●The regular “Thursday Direct Trade Market” hosted at City Hall will also operate during the event

Additional Municipal Measures to Stabilize Food Prices and Support Citizens:

• ●The city is operating a price and supply stabilization task force to ensure the steady availability of key goods.

• ●It is expanding product offerings and geographic coverage of direct trade markets and seasonal seafood sales events.

• ●Public utility fees and personal service charges that closely affect daily life are being controlled to support economic stability for ordinary citizens.

• ○For example, major utility fees will remain frozen in the second half of the year, following the first half.

• ○The city will also expand the number of certified “Good Price Stores” and provide promotional support, including credit card discounts.

Mayor Park stated:

“The city will continue to host direct trade markets and special discounts on agricultural, livestock, and fishery products to help stabilize daily living costs.
I encourage all citizens to take part in this event, which also supports struggling farmers and offers affordable access to fresh products.”
