The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon), in partnership with Busan MBC, announced that it will begin accepting nominations for candidates for the 41st Proud Citizen Award starting today until July 25.

Established in 1985, the Proud Citizen Award is the most prestigious civic honor bestowed by Busan, recognizing citizens who have brought honor to the city or dedicated themselves to helping neighbors in need.

To date, 263 individuals have received the award, contributing to Busan’s image as a warm-hearted and caring city.

Each year, the city selects up to seven awardees across three categories—Local Affection, Volunteerism, and Sacrifice—comprising one Grand Prize, and additional Main and Encouragement Prizes per category.

Last year’s Grand Prize went to Hyun Seung-hoon, Chairman of Hwaseung Group, who has significantly contributed to the city’s economy and community development over the past 50 years.

• ●In the Local Affection category: Park Soo-yong, President of Korea Palgakhoe, was recognized for his dedication to cultural development and blood donation campaigns.

• ●In the Volunteerism category: Lee Moon-jong, head of Sunwoo Barbershop, and volunteer Yoon Kyung-sook, head of Madangjip, were honored for their charitable work.

• ●In the Sacrifice category: Yoo Se-rim, an employee of ElecPower, and Son Dong-hwan, manager of Busan Deokcheon Housing Management Office, were commended for saving lives in emergency situations.

Eligibility Criteria:

Nominees must meet the following:

• ●Demonstrated outstanding achievements in one of the three categories

• ●Resided in Busan for at least 3 years

• ●No previous receipt of the Proud Citizen Award

• ●No municipal awards (Mayor’s citation or higher) within the past year

• ●No disqualification as defined in the Busan Metropolitan City Award Regulations

Who Can Recommend:

• ●District mayors and county governors

• ●Heads of public institutions, civic or occupational organizations, or businesses based in Busan

• ●A group of 20 or more general citizens

How to Apply:

• ●Deadline: By July 25

• ●Methods: Submit via mail, in person, or by email to the Autonomous Administration Division (tang901@korea.kr)

Selection Process:

• ●Preliminary review in August

• ●Field investigation at the end of August

• ●Final evaluation by the review committee in September

• ●Awards presented during Busan Citizens’ Day in early October
