Busan to Host the “2025 Namhaean Cup International Yacht Race,” Linking the Southern Coast by Yacht

Busan Metropolitan City(Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that Busan, in collaboration with Gyeongsangnam-do and Jeollanam-do, will co-host the “2025 Namhaean Cup International Yacht Race” from June 12 to June 15.

The Namhaean Cup International Yacht Race is the only long-distance large yacht cruiser race in Korea that spans the southern coast, connecting Busan, Tongyeong (Gyeongnam), and Yeosu (Jeonnam).
Since 2020, the three regions have co-hosted this event to promote mutual growth and boost marine tourism in the southern coastal region.

Marking its 6th edition this year, the race will feature over 300 athletes from 10 countries competing in thrilling races set against the beautiful coastal scenery of the southern sea.

The races begin on June 13 in Tongyeong’s Donam Port, with the second leg from Tongyeong to Yeosu on June 14, and the final leg from Maemuldo to Busan on June 15.
Citizen participation events will also be held in each city.

The Maemuldo–Busan segment covers approximately 74 km, the longest leg of this year’s race, taking around 8 hours to complete.

The final award ceremonies will be held on June 15 at Suyeong Bay Yacht Marina in Busan and Ungcheon Marina in Yeosu.

The opening ceremony will take place on June 13 at 10:30 AM on the outdoor stage of Tongyeong Marine Sports Center, with the attendance of participating athletes and key officials. The event will feature a declaration of the opening and performances to celebrate the start of the competition.

In addition, from June 13 to 15, Busan’s Suyeong Bay Yacht Marina will host sailing competitions for youth and people with disabilities, allowing a wider range of participants to enjoy the event.

Kim Hyun-jae, Director General of Busan’s Tourism & MICE Bureau, stated,
“Yachts symbolize the shift from ‘viewing the sea’ to ‘enjoying the sea.’ They represent the dignity and value pursued by global marine cities. We will continue working with Gyeongnam and Jeonnam to develop unique tourism content and elevate the Namhaean region as a global hub for marine leisure.”
